If both Japan model and other country manufacture is available, 3 questions;

Do you go for the Japan model?
Would you pay extra for Japan model?
Does it really matter what model you get?

Any help appreciated

Do you go for the Japan model? That is just a matter of personal choice.
Would you pay extra for Japan model? Not personally.
Does it really matter what model you get? Only to you.

Any help appreciated

Years ago when this debate started, I asked yserv.jp what the answer is. They responded that the J/K are nothing more than indicators of intended market distribution and nothing to do with where the watches are made.
Over the years both have been assembled in Singapore, Malaysia and now even China. Earlier many of the parts were made in Japan but eventually the offshore facilities began making the parts as well.

Thank you for your answer...exactly my thoughts....after reading the thread link from start to finish that was posted, and your answer. I’ve come to the conclusion that the quality is exactly the same in J, K and all the other letter models....it’s just your luck if you get one that isn’t as good as the other no matter where it came from. And if you prefer to have “made in Japan” on the dial you may have to pay a bit more for that.

Kanji day wheel for me is the bomb! Also , in the case of vintage quartz divers prefer the JDM versions without the SQ on the dial. Just personal preference. So yes, I would pay extra. Current models? Wouldn't care unless there's misalignment issues.

hahaha, i say YES to paying for the JDM versions. like rob, i like the kanji day wheel a lot! it's also kind of cool to have something that was not sold here originally. it's like giving the bird to the man and saying, "i got one anyway!" =)

Thanks for all your responses...really interesting and totally get the collectors thinking when it comes to true true originality.....I collect 60s/70s records and will easily pay the extra for the first true original. Great to see it carries over into all elements of collecting. [emoji4][emoji106]
