Depends how active you are at work as to how much it is wound up, does it stop with the hands in the same position every time.

Yesterday I went for a run and cooked diner. It stopped working 2.5 hrs after taking it off, and no not always in the same position.

How old is the watch?
If it is new, you should return it as it is defective.
If it is older/used, then it probably needs to be serviced.

 

It's 12 yrs old so probably a service.


Which returns me back to my question of would it cost too much to service or should I look for a donor Seiko 5?

 

I think that service on a 7s26 is a bit too much honor. Just replace it with a new one, that should be much cheaper.

Guess a new one then. Mind you I now have a watch to tinker with.

 

Took the back off last night and had a look.

Everything appears to be ok. When the rotor moves it does engage the first reduction wheel. However I am not sure that this then engages the second reduction wheel.

I did do a manual wind on the ratchet for the main spring whilst the back was open and the reserve lasted all night.

Looks like I may have to follow the instructions on this page http://www.clockmaker.com.au/diy_seiko_7s26/chapter8.html to see if I can rectify things.

Just curious, how much does it cost to service thismkind of watch there at your place?

If you were in my country, doing service is more reasonable

 

Cost would about £50.


Already grabbed the manuals. I'll check to see if the pawl levers are engaging the 2 reduction wheel.
