Hi Folks,

Since I had such great fortune on my first ever 7002 diver, I've been trolling for more great finds. And lucky for me, another nice pick, this time a 7002-7039 200M variant. A new crystal and she is good to go. Temporary band for now, would like to track down an original oyster type in the future. Seller described the watch as having some running issues, so far it is spot on.

Thanks for looking,
Chris

I think it has a new crystal in the last pictures Gabe.

I agree though, great find. This transitional piece is not so easy to locate. Given the overall condition I might consider a Yobokies insert but retain the original one somewhere, not that there is much wrong with the original insert to be fair.. Congrats.

Oh yeah. how did I miss that? LOL. If this is a 7039, that makes it a second gen 7002 diver, which means that the original insert should be the same piece as in SKX divers. swapping for an OEM insert should be no problem. Do correct me if I'm wrong.

That looks great and with the new crystal superb i just wish Seiko hadent cut corners (manufacturing costs) with the dials on so many of the old divers i much prefer the raised chromed hour markers.

True. thankfully there are many great options with applied markers these days.

I believe the SKX has a smaller pip ?

as does the correct second gen 7002 diver insert. the first gen insert is the one with the large pip that is also used in the 6309 divers. they are all interchangeable. It's possible this watch has had the insert replaced at some point, or perhaps the caseback. The easiest way to tell if it is a 7039 is to turn the bezel. if it has 60 clicks, it is not. if it has 120, it is.

I disagree, this is my all original (and dare I say near perfect..) 7002-7039 that has the 120 click bezel and the large pip.

do you think so? when i was looking for the two i had, i found them just like that. i think a minty slim case 6309 is MUCH harder to find.

Interesting. I wonder if the insert mighthave been replaced at some point in the life of the second gen? Seiko did experiment a lot with the 7002s.
I tend to find that the only certainty with Seiko is there is no certainty more like generalisations as all the rules seem to be nearly certainties but something that goes against the "rules" always seems to crop up :)

Agreed, 6309-729X's in great shape are most definitely harder to find. To clarify my statement about the 7002-7039 being not so easy to find, in my mind as I typed it I was thinking as opposed to a 7002-700X. Generally speaking 7002-7039's are not the most elusive of diver out there for sure....

Hi Guys,

All I replaced was the crystal, and it didn't seem there were any markings inside the caseback. The PIP has a very nice vintage look, so nice it might get moved to another watch down the road. I'm new to the entire 7002- line so I can't really comment all that much.

Chris

PS: $45+$14 for crystal = I'm very pleased !

That watch was my very first dive watch and very first Seiko. I wore mine exclusivly for five years straight until it went in for service and I found the internet. That was in 2001 and I have not worn it much since then. Mine also needs a new crystal as well as the original dial reinstalled and relumed. The guy who serviced mine did something to the lume when it was apart and it barely glowed when I got it back. I made him get me a replacement dial but all he could get at the time was an older 150m dial which he installed.
The funny part was that I didn't even think about getting the original dial back at the time until I found the older SCWF forum and made me realize that I wanted the original dial. I contacted him over a year later and luckily he still had the old dial which he gave me. I did buy a new crystal years ago but never had it installed.
Who do you guys recommend on servicing these watches as well as reluming the dial and hands?
Great find. Enjoy yours. This post has made me want to dig mine out of the drawer and wear it.
