Pisses me off,
Having just got over the "sell the lot blues" and eager again to look for watches on my wanted list and to find them, only to see "Conus only" that does piss me off big time. :a102:
No doubt sellers have the right and the reason to do this but that does not help me, with the time difference etc it just makes it harder to buy something you really want other than going to the bay.

Not this again :021:

I guess some may equate this to racism or sexism.

However, in a private non government controlled and affrimative action dictated environment the seller can make the rules.

On a side note I was sort of turned off by a post on the trade forum from an overseas seller who said shipping was 5X more (for registered shipping i assume) if he didn't know you or had done business with you in the past. Having done business with Chuck in the past althought I went through a watch master intermediary for my next project to procure said watches (Chuck sent me one of his last and off of one of his personal watches flat saphire crystals which he was the first to have made for the market whxich I needed for use on my first on the scene 6309 GMT divers MOD on credit with my promise of sending him one of Yobokies domed saphire crystals when he had the next batch made) I know that he is a stand up guy and not out to disenfranchise any buyers but was looking to protect himself from a chargeback or scam.

So it goes both ways.

It is up to the seller as to what risk they want to take.

As a buyer it is a take it or leave it market. If you don't agree with the terms then leave it. If the seller left dollars on the table beacuse they wouldn't sell to so and so it is their loss.

OK.. So here is what I do.. If it is a watch that I am really after, then I will PM the seller asking them to consider sending offshore to me.. For the most part I have a positive response.. be aware though that the cost of sending something outside CONUS can be quite expensive.. At the end of the day it is the seller who has the final say who they sell to..

Yeh well i know all that and that and that and i know it has been posted many times before but i had to vent my frustration anyway.

Yep 'Mericans ::) , one of the reasons sited was, that they had to go to the post office and fill out a form. Unlike the rest of the world who just use telekinesis and specially trained trolls to fill out the forms. :)

All you have to do is, get someone in the States to be your middleman. It's really not that difficult, and definitely not worth getting pissy about.

IMHO, "not worth getting pissy about" even if a "middleman" could not be found. ::)

All you can do is suck it up man . . . the PM route has never failed me yet, either here on the TP or on the 'bay . . . I think most people just want to see a genuine commitment to sorting out an equitable solution in a majority of cases, if they prove to be intransigent however, then simply move on . . . and like you, I'm out here in Aussie Land. ;D

Yeah, you know how we 'Mericans are. Choosing and filling out the correct customs form is a real pain in the ass. Thankfully, it just so happens I'm psychic and the troll's on order.

Truth be told, I've spent up to 30 minutes waiting on line at the PO. Is it my preference, absolutely not, but I ship to other countries all the time.

There's always going to be a certain amount of inconvenience with selling a watch. Very few of us either have a post office next door or a lackey to wrap it and take it to a PO for us. I have to drive about 5 klms, fill out the forms and address the package. It would be so much more convenient if the guy next door would buy any watch that I have for sale.

So a different question in relation to this.. To send a package within the CONUS do you have to go to the local post office or do they just pick it up from your letter box?? I recall as a young lad when living in Southern California, that the Postal van would drive past and if you had the flag up on your letter box that they knew you had a letter or package for them to collect.. Mind you I was only a kid so I have no idea if that was the same for everyone.. Also, I suspect that back then, you probably didn't need to worry too much about someone else other than the postman taking your letters or packages from your box.. I also remember the guy from a local bakery coming around in his van and the wonderful jelly filled donuts he sold.. ;D

George, to be honest, from my experience some Oz sellers are also restrictive when dealing with buyers overseas. I say open up the sales channel globally but make sure you are well insured and deal with a reputable courier company.

Pos Malaysia only pays me back max $30 on any packages sent registered internationally and that takes helluva set of documentation to fill. Not many would be willing to pay $50 for EMS when Registered Post is about a third of that.

I have bought several $100 watches from the US (ebay) where the postage (fully insured) added another $50 to the price. I was happy to pay the extra to get the watch I wanted and it was still a cheap watch at $150. If the buyer is prepared to pay the extra I don't see why a US seller should have a problem with selling internationally.

Thanks for the great replies, although i can't work out what Racism and Sexism has to do with it (first reply) although Agent Orange has pickled my brain to some extent.
I do understand the problems with Post, waiting in line etc, some time ago i spent 3 + Hours in the Post office sending 26 parcels consisting of Seiko Watch Stands to forum members mostly in the US and just recently 2 hours sending 12 parcels consisting of Genuine Seiko advertising paraphernalia and memorabilia items all at no cost other than postage, a pain yes but i liked doing it but then again i do have the time on my hands.

Cheers and Beers

We could always set up an antipodean equivalent of "Conoz only" and that way when you finally decide to offload some of that fantastic collection I might have an improved chance of getting my hands on some of that treasure. ;)

I could care less if I sell CONUS only or O/S but in over 90% of the time I end up undercharging when sending O/S and when I ask a VERY reasonable shipping price the buyer usually balks at the price and thinks it's too much and trys to get me to lower the price by telling me that they can send to so and so for so much and blah blah blah!
Another thing a lot of O'S buyers dont realize is that if I'm sending USPS (the ONLY way I'll ship) I cannot supply them with a tracking number or insurance as the USPS in the U.S. doesnt offer that service. I could of course send VIA a different carrier that does offer those services but they cost 3-4 times more!
