Hi gang,

I should just wait until it gets here and do my usual unveiling, but I am so excited about getting a King Seiko I want to shout about it. :yahoo:

I found what I think is an example in good shape, without excessive polishing, and hopefully all original, if you don't count the new red (why red?) leather strap. It looks like it is "only" a 5625 not a 5626, but I don't even know what the difference is!

I purchased it on our "favorite" auction site, and was a little worried because the bidding stopped well below my preset maximum bid. And my maximum bid wasn't all that high, as the honorable seller was charging $50 for shipping! :dizzy:

I have become more disciplined about that auction site, too. As I am sure many of you have learned, I figure out what my honest maximum price will be, bid that much and then DON'T WATCH1

Although I will admit I set a timer on my phone for just AFTER the auction ended. It went off in the middle of a meeting, but nobody noticed and I was able to check and see that I won! Woohoo!

5625 is date only, 5626 is day/date otherwise they are the same movement.
Seems a nice score :)
The gold KS medallion seems to have been replaced.
Ah-ha!

Ah, thank you for the clarification, sir!

And I was just thinking that about the medallion when I posted, as it is 90 degrees rotated from the normal position, right?

Yes that's the reason for my comment, also it seems crisper than the rest of the case when normally the opposite is true. Replacement medallions are easily available.

Hmm, so should I be happy I bought it and get a replacement medallion that is Suwa, instead of the Daini that is on it now?

I wrote to the seller and asked if I could cancel the sale, maybe that was another mistake?

As I charge forward in ignorance! :p

But...

The 5625 is daini if I am correct..
But isn't that a Suwa on the dial?
I was not correct :) 52xx are Daini, 56xx are Suwa. The dial has the correct Suwa logo
For your question.. the 7000 is probably the nicest KS case. In good condition (unpolished) they fetch £200 or a bit more quite easily. An original buckle pushes the price up another notch.
This watch is trying to seem better than it is, the good points are the dial and hands seem perfect, Crystal seems to be a new replacement but if so it has the correct beveled edge and is probably original. The -ve is that the case is probably more worn than is apparent, it has been polished and the replaced medallion means the original was either badly worn ormissing completely.

If you got it for a good price you should be fine, flip it when a better one appears, these are always in demand.

Last I check about 8 months back, these replacement medallion are costly on the bay.
Any idea who is selling now ?
Here's a lot of info on the GS and KS lines, particularly which factory produced what :) http://www.watch-wiki.net/index.php?title=Grand_Seiko

Xzqt : not sure who is selling them nowadays, they do show up in Japan. I remember them being available on eBay and wondering if they are original Seiko parts or replicas.
Thank you!

Nice pick-up Thomas - I don't know anything about these but the thread I just posted has a link to a post with another with a red strap - maybe that was the original colour?
You will notice that the medallion on the one in this post simply says SEIKO - interesting, no?http://www.thewatchsite.com/21-japa...-6309-nice-posts-pics-tapestry-time-blog.html

Whew!

Well, thanks to the help provided by our wonderful watch community, it looks like I was able to cancel this purchase.

I had sent two emails 24 hours apart to the seller, requesting the cancellation, as the medallion was not original, nor even the correct one and not installed correctly.

I had not seen any response, so I called eBay support and they sent both of us an email with our respective phone numbers.

I called the seller in Singapore at 8 am (8 pm Eastern) and he agreed to cancel the purchase.

I hope to see full refund soon, so I can dedicate the funds toward a King Seiko Chronometer coming up in four days!!
