Thanks, Ray - those are amazing examples!

So far, 700H, 700B, 700F show early '78 production (March, April, May) and 7009, 700F are seen in later production '85

One of the earliest 7548 serials I've seen so far - 700F #830327 (screenshot taken from the web), Latest serial (Jon's in post above) 7009 #561880

Hi Todd, need to add -700A to early production list. Here’s a caseback shot from a -700A, Feb ‘78

Wow! Incredible, David - never seen a 7548 from February 1978 before, definitely the lowest serial I've seen at #820056 - and a 700A - nice. I'll adjust the comment in my earlier post. From the chart it shows the 700A is another orange SQ dial variant - if you happen to have a shot of the dial from your source - would be awesome to see it.

The other interesting thing I've noticed with this review is that the earliest versions of 7548's we've been seeing are all SQ dials so far.

I have seen/owned many 7548-7000 black dial JDM and 7548-700B Pepsi JDM examples from 1979, but I don't recall seeing any JDM dial examples from 1978, maybe they began production for export versions with SQ dials before domestic JDM versions? Too early to speculate and probably more difficult to prove it's all original, but it's something I have noticed over the years of collecting 7548's.

Thanks to everyone so far for sharing their 7548's and serials for this post so far.

Hi Todd,

Front shot of the Feb ‘78 -700A

Let’s just say it’s got character, hands replaced at some point.

We’ve now documented a 700A February 1978 serial #820056 and it is the earliest 7548 production in this thread - see post #21 below :), The Latest serial (Mike’s in post #24 below) 7010 from July 1985 #570203
I'll join in with a 7548-7010 from July of 1985. Rolled off the assembly line a few units before Mike's. I'll hazard to say mine was born after breakfast, Mike's after lunch. #570187

Thanks to Seiko divers quartz 7548 700X inizio e fine produzione. Monitoraggio dei fondelli.

There is 1978 catalogue (a few photos, not full cat) with the 7548 model offerings

Also photo of -700B (SQ) from Jan ‘78

So like most, Tiger John's March 1978 shows a recommended battery change in 1981, three years out from factory.

Yet this amazing January 1978 shows 1983, in other words a 5 year interval.

Seiko must have walked back their factory battery life claim shortly after launching the 7548.

I was considering it a huge win to see/document a February ‘78 case back but did not expect to see a January ‘78 at all! Thanks for this, David

I’ve updated the original post above with this info.

It is strange about the first battery change year being “83” on the case back per Jon’s comment.

Thanks for this Rob - will be interesting to see if a later production month comes up in ‘85 - anyone have a “58XXXX” or later?
