I've searched and tried to find a thread that captures this, but only saw mention of high-level timeframes. Seiko Diver Production Years | The Watch Site

It's been widely known that the 7548-70XX was in production from early 1978 - 1985 or possibly early 1986 (which was the beginning year of the 7C43-70XX). What isn't known to me, from what I can tell, is what are the earliest and latest production dates of these amazing Quartz divers?

I've heard mention of a watch with a February 1978 serial, but have never seen an actual serial that shows this - if you have one please share.

I have owned several March 1978 7548's and the earliest I've owned and is still in my current collection, is a 7548-700H from March 1978 SN 830871

The latest I've owned (now sold) was a 7548-700F Pepsi from March 1985, if you have a later production from 1985, please share!

Hope to hear what others have out there.

Spoiler alert - here's the summary from the entire thread so far - but keep reading if you want to see how we arrived here.

So far, 700A, 700H, 700B, 700F show early 1978 production (January, February, March, April, May) and 7009, 700F, 7010 are seen in later production 1985 (currently through November with a 700F).

150m black and blue dials were produced for the entire production run 1978-1985 while black and orange 200m dials with screw-down crystal ring cases (701A, 7010) were only produced 1984-1985. Note that it’s been previously documented that 150m and 200m dials were in production at the same time, with examples from both seen 1984-1985.

Earliest production
The Earliest 7548-70XX serial documented here is a 700B blue 150m SQ dial Pepsi from January 1978 serial #811487 (post #27).

Latest production
The Latest 7548-70XX serial documented here is a 700F blue 150m SQ dial Pepsi from November 1985 serial #5N0972 (post #34), the latest 7010 200m dial so far is from July 1985 serial #570203 (post #24).

I have a 700H in a “Sample” case dated March ‘78 and 2 others (700H) dated Apr 78. One would deduce that 700H started in March 78 (though one should never deduce in the world of Seiko is what I have observed from the Learned on this site)
I have 2x 700A’s from May and June 78
It appears (again speculating) that 7548-7009 was the last model run is 1985 possibly until mid year.
I have 7009 from Apr 85. Of interest, I think this was the end of the Z199 bracelet and introduction of the Z1290, I understand there is some 7009’s that may have been fitted with this bracelet.

Great project to reign in this info and it would be a good extension of John’s (TigerUK) spreadsheet

Regards
David

Thanks David and NevRo -
David - interesting note about the end and beginning of the Z199 and Z1290 bracelets appreciate that insight, and thanks for the info on your late 7009.

If you don’t mind sharing, I’m curious to know what both of your March ‘78 serials end with, are they earlier than my 700H’s 830871?

And - here is what I believe is the latest iteration of @TheTigerUK John's chart:

Thanks, sorry if I had too much going on in my reply

The 700H sample case is 831580 (being a sample though they could have stamped 831234 for giggles)
There was an auction that just finished for a 700H and it is 831014

My other 700H’ are 840066 and 840366

Thanks for this - I have a 700F that is 831248, so far I’m noticing that 700H and 700F are early production runs. I’ll be on the lookout for a 7000 March ‘78.

From my six I have a May 78 700B & March 85 700F, assuming watch and case backs have always been together as I've had each for only 5 years or so and a nice serial on a 7000 that has four 3's in a row.
Also noticed a 7000 that is April 80 and the first battery change stamp is 81, normally I see about 3 year to first battery change provision so isn't this a little bit odd?
Also a 7C43-7000 of Jan 86.
Would be interesting to know how far apart the serials are between my 85**** 700b and Reys are.
