Hi all, I've finally got a 6217 on the way and was wondering what people thought is the best strap combination. I like the look of the cross-hatched carbon fibre style bands, but would love to see some shots of other possibilities. Has anyone tried a bracelet? Cheers, James

IMHO a "tropic" strap has the best combination of looks, availability and historical relevance. It will also give you the "cross-hatched" look.

Another good choice would be Will Jean's new mesh due to the straight case section in the 6217's lugs. Will just sent me one and it's fit and finish are superb. There is a full review by Harry in an earlier post here as well:

I've just sold a 19mm Tropic to a 6217 owner (and member of the SCWF), and very happy he appears to be with it.

But, the genuine Tropic straps carry a hefty price premium. The generic tropic straps that I've had are on a par in terms of quality with the genuine Tropics, but I wouldn't feel safe having a valuable watch on a 30 year old piece of plastic/rubber. So if you do decide to go with a Tropic style strap........ I'd rather trust the newer generic versions.

Or better still, fit a bracelet as swedefreak suggests.

mine has an olive/military green swiss Tropic and I'm happy with it...

I agree, an original strap isn't an option because of the cost/reliability mentioned. I've seen quality oysters on 6105s and 6309s, but I've never seen a bracelet on a 6217. Do you have any pics swedefreak?

I've had no issues with genuine waffles (the "fakes" however could snap into two pieces for nothing).
However, I think a tropic looks best on the mas.

I haven't done a conversion for the 6217 which is why I posted this photo. It's the closest in look to what you might choose.

IMHO, the tropic strap is best for the MAS, period!
