Hi folks, I am making a gigantic fruit salad for the Customer Services folks at work, but I took some time out to show a rare Seiko Solar watch, that I wore the first time today! (But not with a teeny, weenie, yellow, polka-dot bikini!! ºLº )

This is the Seiko SBCB001, the third variant of the Audrey Ferreras designed "Jewel Fish" Solar Divers. Very unusual design, with clear, domed acrylic bezels that have raised numerals under the acrylic, and domed crystals.

The dials and bezels are a mixture of a transparent color over a gold or silver shiny background, so they look very different as the light hits them in different ways, dark in soft light, and blazing shiny in sunlight!

SUS style hands, silver outlined hour markers with a contrasting color ring around the 12 6 and 9 markers. And the weirdest feature is their minute ring, which is painted on the underside of the crystal!!

Screw down crowns, really good lume, very accurate solar powered movements, but with their styling it's hard to take them as serious "tool" watches. When I got my first one of these, I made up a category for it, when I called it a "Cocktail Diver"! ^L^

These are "way" discontinued. Here is a page from an old Seiko catalog I think it's from 2001:

The case is 39 mm in diameter, without the crown, the bezel is about 0.5 mm larger.

<b>SharkfinDave and jbdan</b>, thank you for your compliments, I do seem to collect the less popular, unusual Seikos and Citizens. I feel like they deserve some respect too!


<b>Toxicavenger</b>, I'm a Connecticut and California guy, just recent relocated to Cincinnati, so I don't know Key West, but from what I do know, that sounds right! ;D Hot nights, tropical shirts, standing around the pool, drinks with little umbrellas in them, but safe in knowing your fancy watch is rated to 100m (just in case you end up in that pool)!


<b>Technoman</b>, that was my goal! I seem to collect the seldom seen (say that 10 times fast!) so I like to present them now and then, as there is always someone who has never seen them! Glad to broaden your Japanese watch knowledge! They do pop up now and then in the Asian markets.


<b>dennis612</b>, of course they are! I keep all 90 or so of my watches synchronized to the second! :-\ Okay, I'm lying! But the yellow and blue ones were already synced to within a second or so, by chance, so I synced up the algae-green one, and the other two, for the family shot. It was fun watching through the camera's viewfinder, as the second hands moved in perfect unison, tick, tick...

<b>Sewingman</b>, that looks like a nice older Seiko, would love to see more pics of that! Seiko has always had a solar-powered watch here and there in their lineups, but often only one in the 'tool' category, the others would be smaller ladies or boys sizes. Some they have carried for a long while are (were?) the black and blue SBCB007 and SBCB009, a couple of my favorite Seikos, with very classy bezels, lightweight titanium construction, wicked cool hands, in my opinion! Many have found them too small and light, but not I! ;D

Hi <b>Seikojohn!</b> ^-^ Yes, these are some of the few Seiko Solar powered watches. I don't really know when they were released, but the catalog page Sir Les posted, and I have re-posted, seems to be dated Feb of 2001. I have seen comments that they were available in the late 1990's and early 2000's, but I don't really know! :-[


<b>AdamITR</b>, yes I would prefer solid link bracelets as well, but these are high quality folded links, as far as that goes, and I like their polished and brushed link styling, and the sturdy clasp. Too bad they taper so much, and they aren't very long to start with. :-X
