Alright, I’ve been part of this community for a few days and a number of my longstanding questions have been answered and I am throughly impressed with everyone’s brilliance. One thing that has always bothered me about my 200+ vintage Seiko collection is that I don’t really know how best to organize it. Right now, I have 15+ 12-watch boxes and the system is pretty random…this is great for picking a random watch to wear for the day but does not make any real sense. Any suggestions? By date, function, intended use, value? I love my collection and have worked very hard on it, but I feel like I have a random assortment of great things.

You could organize by date of manufacture month and year, or do date of manufacture in groupings by movement reference, or group by type, chrono, dive, dress, field ect and then sub group by date of manufacture. My 1st choice would simply be date of manufacture with each month/year having all types, then if you wanted to rotate through them you could go forward or backwards through them sequentially. And yes pics please :) at least your fav dozen

Will do, just landed in Mexico and, to be honest, for about $40. USD I can have a Seiko serviced by a amazing vintage Seiko watch shop. Frankly, if not for the $30-50 USD service down here I’d have maybe 3 vintage watches. I brought down 13 on this trip. I always thought it would be fun to set up a middleman business that matches collectors with watchmakers in countries where the dollar has a bit more power.

200+ seikos? Mine are in shoeboxes.

I used to keep the ones I thought I'd wear often in a fancy watch box... But eventually I just wore whatever new arrived from the mail.

I wish I would take the time to store them properly and keep a spreadsheet.

I learned from my last trip, my only issue is Mexican Customs. I to pay 19% of their estimated value and that came to $150 :(. I do have a guy there that can polish crystals (even faceted ones) for $4. Anyway, maybe one day I’ll figure out a business model…the only issue being I can’t get my watches without a flight to Mexico City. TacosandSeikos.com?

Any chance you have pictures of the faceted crystals before and after polish? Impressive if he's able to keep the angles sharp.

Sure, let me pull them out later today. I have a close Seiko collecting friend that uses a jeweler to polish my crystals when I can’t justify buying them or they are too rare. Of course every time I bring one of these faceted watches to my friend he always heckles me by stating that “you will buy any and all Seikos you come across.”

Haha same! As a result I now have multiple faceted crystals that are too expensive to purchase replacements for.

I just pulled out two that have crystals that I’ve had “reground and polished”. The guy I had do the work also polishes my other crystal and, according to him, this work really isn’t much different and the cost was the same. Apologies for not cleaning these before taking the pics, I’m still waking up here in CA. Cheers…
