Just completed service and overhaul for a fellow forum member on this absolutely stunning August 1969 blue dial 6139-6019 Resist/Resist with cal 6139A movement. These early 69 6139s are interesting as some are marked Proof and some are Resist and I guess there are even some with Proof/Resist. Note the mat hands which the client had me clean and relume. Never seen these in person before but heard they were used on the early versions of this watch. Also note the 2 part sweep and sub dial hand both with an anodized red appearance. I had heard Seiko used a very translucent paint on these early chronograph hands but later changed to the more traditional tomato red on future models.

The funny thing about this particular watch was it had a broken upper minute counter wheel pinion but other than that showed little signs of wear. Wonder if the pinion broke and someone put it away in a drawer for 45+ years. The upper and lower mainspring arbors looked almost new and still had metal plating inside the arbor ports, not the typical worn to brass appearance. Get a load of the numbers I got on this piece right out of the gate. I mean I did absolutely no adjustment on this watch. Dropped in the cleaned and serviced balance into the movement and she produced 236 - 240 amplitude and 0.0BE running at about +7 sec/d. I love easy. Amazing.

That's lovely. I'm luck enough to have a nice November '69 proof/proof one.

Gorgeous. I just did a 6139-6010 Proof/Proof for this customer a few weeks back. This Resist/Resist will go along side it.

Beautiful work John! I’m on the lookout for a good proof/proof example in the future to compliment the resist I got from you a few months ago.

Outstanding work, John. IMO, the 6139-601x is a classic, and the early pieces like this one are really special. So happy to see this one brought back to such good working condition.

I just took delivery of a Seiko 6139-6019 from December 1969 (Resist/Resist). I can't wait to get this one serviced and to see the blue dial pop with a new crystal. It currently runs but the chronograph pusher doesn't work. It presses all the way in very smoothly without any tactile/engagement feel at all.

I also might pickup a new bezel for it. Do these look right? https://www.ebay.ca/itm/83339159-GENUINE-BEZEL-SEIKO-AUTOMATIC-CHRONOGRAPH-CASE-BACK-NUMBER-6139-6012/303307452827?hash=item469e88719b:g:kSUAAOSwAKxWYf~D

Yes, that is the correct bezel for your 6139-6019
