State of the collection... Divers:

Even though our favourite Seiko divers were produced 40 or 50 years ago, they are still relatively plentiful, and don't usually command Omega or Rolex money. I have spent a lot of time researching and learning what is right and what is not right, - very important nowadays when there are so many fake dials and aftermarket parts around. I enjoy learning the subtle differences with the production range of the various models.

Silverwave:
The Silverwave was introduced in 1961 pre-dating the 62mas by 4 years. Some were produced after 62mas production began. They are not really dive watches, more a snorkeler perhaps. but were the first Seiko to feature the Tsunami caseback. There are 6 variants of Silverwave, 4 are Seikomatic 50m and 2 are Sportsmatic 30m. I found the Black dial Sportsmatic the most elusive. In over 5 years looking I only ever saw one for sale – which I bought. I said 6 variants; but if I wanted to be pedantic, I could say due to very slight differences in the dials of the Seikomatic models there could be 10?
Here are the 6 Silverwaves:

62mas.. 6217-8000 and 6217-8001
The 62mas is a lovely watch, sturdy, yet light comfortable, and easy to read. One of my all time favourites. I often wear a 62mas:
I reckon there are 5 variants of 62mas. There are 2 sets of 5 here. April/May 1965 small crown on the left, and 1967 Daini Seikosha’s on the right:

6105-800x and 6105-811x
Everyone likes a 6105. There are more homages to this watch than any other I can think of. The 6105 is not a rare watch, but like the 62mas they are getting difficult to find in good condition. According to my records I have owned 24 6105’s and have sold most of them in the past couple of years. These are the core of my 6105 collection with all variants represented. The two on the right of the box are 1970 6105-8110 Proof/Proof one from May and the other from June of that year. Does anyone have one with a July serial number?

6306-700x and 6309-704x
Everyone should have a 6309. This is the classic Seiko diver. The 6306 came first and I have a July 1976 6306-7000, and an August 1976 6306-7001. This must have been the changeover period. There is very little difference between the two, just in the crown cutout area I believe? I have a couple of superb Scubapro 450’s, both from March 1978.

6309-729x ‘Slim case’
This was when the staid 6309 started getting interesting, gaining a ‘pepsi’ bezel on the 6309-729A, and an orange dial with gold hands on the rarely found 6309-729B. I hesitate to use the word rare, but it took me a very long time to source a nice -729B.
The watch at bottom left is a 6309-7290 TST.

6215-7000 and 6159-700x
There is no doubt about it, the 6215 and 6159 300m divers are the pinnacle of vintage Seiko dive watches. They are as good as it gets. The 6215 has the lovely low beat 35 jewels 62 series movement and the 6159 has a high beat GS based 36000 movement, both are truly wonderful. They are sharing this box with some 7548 quartz divers.

I haven’t got around the cataloguing my 7002’s yet. I know I have a few gaps in that collection and I defer to Ivor for his knowledge and expertise. So 7002’s are work in progress for me. I have left it a bit late perhaps.. Few 7002’s seem to survive in good original condition. At any time, eBay has dozens of them for sale, all very rough or modded. 7002’s are proving to be very thin on the ground and harder to find than the earlier divers.

Chrono’s another day…

Jeebus. I was impressed with just the Silverwaves.
And the straps. And the boxes.
