Recently I got a Seiko Quartz Superior 9980 which does not run.
(Tested with new battery, setting time is possible)

Is anybody out there who's able to repair that caliber?
Or does know someone who could?

BTW: I do need a battery hatch for the watch because it came without one.
Does any battery hatch of Seiko Quartz watches fit? (Like 9943/2/0)
Also I would be thankful for a source of battery hatch gaskets for that type of watches.

You should start with the full model number. It will be on the case back and read 9980-XXXX

It's a 9980-8000 B.
But why shall the case number be important?
It's the movement, not the case, isn't it?

You are asking for a couple of things. The damaged movement and a replacement battery hatch. The battery hatch is related to the case and not the movement.

I assume parts for the movement will be very difficult to find. But the problem could just be as simple as needing a service. Failing that it will be either the coil or circuit block.

Someone here might know if parts from the 9980 movement are the same other lesser seiko movements.

The Seiko Battery Hatch is seiko part 83599599
The Battery hatch gasket is Seiko Part DZ1320B01

Unless someone knows what other seiko watches use that battery hatch, you may never be able to find a replacement.

Good luck!

Look at the parts list for other calibers in the series, 9XXX calibers. For the battery hatch, look at others in the series for the case, IE: 8XXX case numbers. More than likely some share the same battery hatch. Boley is a good place to look at the case parts, Gleave and Company has most of the Seiko caliber part lists.

Thank you Dan, thank you zeke441,

at Boley I found that all 998x and 994x use the same battery hatch so a nonfunctional unsightly 994x is all I will need :)

No time yet to take a look at Gleave and Company but I will do very soon.

BTW: I am in contact with a competent repairman.

Thanks again folks for your kind help.
I will keep you informed about the revival progress.
