I've done some limited research, all with no definitive guesstimations.
I have received this 8223-5330 with a lion head symbol with a similar shape to the Seiko 5 logo.
Just wondering if it was a Seiko superior type branding and how common this is.
A few comments have suggested it was an attempt to liken it to the King Seiko range, however I don't think the movements were any more refined.

wow...well that is a new one on me...kinda looks like that seiko superior logo..on the case backs...looks like a unusual find for sure...what year is it?...does it looks original?..

Jan 1982. It had an aftermarket band on it but I replaced it with the band of a h557.
Other than that. All original and there is enough Google images to suggest it was a Seiko issued dial for this particular watch.

See one for sale on ebay in South Aus!

I got this one from Victoria I think.
I saw that one but there isn't much info.
It looks good with an original bracelet.
I have one similar and may swap it for that.

It's not for me, I don't normally wear square watches and I would normally pop It back on ebay but might offer it here once the discussion dies off.
