I picked up a Seiko 7A28 a few weeks ago - total hope purchase. It came in with about the worst possible outcome - major battery leak, destroyed anti-magnetic shield, destroyed circuit. Just cooked. Dial / hands / case / bezel were good though... and thanks to John (Tiger) I happened to have a 7A48 Moonphase basket case in the parts drawer. After looking, fiddling, cleaning, testing I managed to ascertain that the two could be combined to make one working watch, and so the 7A28 was reborn! With one slight detour to pick chunks of rust out of the 1/10th counter gear train, it was almost ready to wear.

here's the slightly longer story of the rebuild: http://www.thewatchsite.com/index.php/topic,29275.0.html

It was still missing a few parts that prevented me from wearing it - two pushers and a stem. DaveS stepped up, donating a complete case with pushers and stem! Now.. the last thing. What was the original bracelet that this model carried? Anyone have pictures? A bracelet ID number?

Here's the seller's picture:

here's a poor "after" shot, just after getting it rolling again

Here's a picture with it on a Seiko 6138 chrono bracelet that i had sitting around - it actually works really well but is slightly too narrow - I could shim it up and it'd work fine, but really the right bracelet would be the way to go.

Hi Spencer. The bracelet is B1074, also fitted to the 7A28-703B. An alternative would be the B1073 as fitted to the 7A28-7038. B1074 has black joining links and B1073 has silver joining links
I managed to get to the post office today on the way to work, so your case parts are in the post.
Kind regards
Dave

the hunt is on!

This method of watch acquisition is like trying to fill an inside straight - way more work than getting a natural. Fun though, and as always it's so great to see how helpful this board can be, which is very helpful.

Hi Spencer. Anyone can collect watches but getting them going again is what it's all about. Excellent stuff there mate I am sure the feeling of satisfaction makes the process worth while.

IMO tinkering is a proper hobby and it brings like minded enthusiasts together, witness the parts flowing in from the brothers.

This 7A28 model is one of the most attractive, I think. You´ve done a great job!

Thank you, I appreciate that. A member has put me onto the trail of a bracelet, and the buttons are coming in. Stem is here. Once all this is in place, new lume and a new crystal. Then the grand unveiling!
