Hi everyone,
I need your advice after exchanging the crystal of a Seiko 7548 to new sapphire from Yokobies.
To go more in detail: I was not able to press the retaining ring as deep as it was before. Now I am wondering whether this is because of my poor work (and low experience) or if the crystal dimensions may differ a bit.
So, would you dismount and try again or is this quite normal?
Some pictures for your better assessment:

Hmm. Some don't click like a genuine one, but you have to make sure you have the gasket holding ring the right way round and make sure the gasket is tucked in nicely. After that, the crystal should press home fairly easily. Once that's all in place the bezel should snap in place with a press, if it doesn't it normally means I've got an AM one or there is one of the above issues.

What's the profile of the crystal like compared to the original? Do the bevelled edges match? I've noticed that there is a slight gap around the edge when the bezel is pressed home but you can see how easy it is to remove thereafter to work out whether it's installed correctly or not. If it too easily spring clear, check the other parts are installed correctly and check with the original crystal installed as to how the bezel/crystal retention ring situate.

Hi GuyJ, many thanks for your reply.
I dismounted it again and it was quite easy to remove the retaining ring.
A comparison between old crystal and new sapphire crystal shows a difference of the bevel (see picture). It is obvious that the retaining ring cannot be pressed down that deep compared to the old crystal. But I even don’t know if the old crystal is an original.

Anyhow I was hoping that a crystal from Yobokies is made to fit.
So what to do now?. Complain? Use different retaining ring? Order other sapphire crystal? (Which supplier do you recommend?)

Sorry, I should’ve mentioned, that left one is new sapphire crystal and right one is old crystal.

I presume the one on the rights the original
I've had some I can't quite snap home- really depends on how 'anal' (no offence) you are about it and what you intend to use the watch for (i.e. Water resistance). Obviously the shallows bevel is not allowing the retaining ring to fully engage with the lip
The watch will function fine as will the bezel as is

Send it back. Yobokies should be made aware there is a dimensional problem so the product can be revised. When I was going through my mod it phase and did up dozens of 6309's I bought aftermarket crystals from several vendors before finding one that fitted properly. I also used to use JK's bubble boys a lot because they always fitted.

Personally I'd just buy a KVWR reproduction and not have fhe headache! :)

You didn't confirm the gasket ring is the right way around. The ring sits on top of the chapter with the edge lip facing upwards. I assume you have got this right and it is the profile that's causing the issue. Strange it's quite shallow to be a faithful repro, and more surprising this hasn't come up before as it must have been used on a load of 6309s already?

Yes, the gasket ring was sitting properly.

You mentioned your crystal supplier, but I don’t know these abbreviations. Who is JK or KVWR?

I just got 2 CT crystals for 7548's. One fitted really well while the other would not allow the retaining ring to seat properly.
The crystals I removed were different thicknesses. One at 2.3mm and the other at 2.4mm

I just send a mail to Harold, waiting for his reply.
Dimensions will be checked to evening after I return from work. I keep you informed.
