So I have a really nice early proof dial 6138-0011 that also seems to have a case in reasonable condition. It has been brushed at some point and I would like to refinish the case but I am having a tough time finding any images of an original case for this model that would clearly show how it looked from the factory.

Anybody got any pictures of the awesome UFO that would show this please?

TIA

It's a Yachtman not a UFO. Here is a picture of one belonging to Kelly Rayburn which should give you a goof look at the finish:

Basically the top is satin finished in a circular pattern, while the flat side of the lugs and the under side curve of the case are polished. IIRC there is a crease on the side where the polished and brushed finishes meet. I believe the pushers are brushed, but keep in mind that this model uses the pushers with the little piston ring cut outs. IIRC the edge of the bezel is polished. Check with swedefreak, he should be able to confirm or correct any of this.

It's only the upper part of the case that is brushed and the bezel and pushers are polished.

Cheers! :)

Thanks Isthmus, Daniel.

Those pictures are great and give me a much better idea as to how this should look. It seems from most of the examples of this watch I see that most of the area that should be polished are actually brushed, as they are on my example which I know was refinished at some point. I think I have my work cut out on getting this one back into shape.

Recently re-done for a customer...

COSERV had put a mint green sweep hand on this one at some point and I have seen the mint green on only one other 6138-0011 whose owner swears is original to his watch. Bu this customer told me his was originally orange in 1973 so I made it so.

Wow, what a great job!!

Is that a NOS bezel or was he lucky enough to have one in that condition?

What happened to the Seiko dial emblem?

Thanks for the generous compliment.

The Seiko logo is blacked-out by the reflection of my black-bodied Fuji---just an illusion.

The bezel is a superb aftermarket I bought a few years ago for one of my own 6138s and never used. Unfortunately I can't find any nearly as good and the guy who supplied this one disappeared.

Your welcome. Richly deserved for the work and effort you put into your work/hobby/work.

That is a very nice insert, it even has the correct looking finish, at least in the photo anyway.
