So I've bought a scabby old rally diver, the movement (6119c) isn't working so my question is, if I buy another watch with a working 6119c movement in, will it be a straight swap, or were there different variants of the movement produced?

Movements are the same, the only likely differences will be the day/date wheels - but you can swap them over and also the holding ring for dial AKA movement spacer. The 6119c and 6106a tech pdfs will give you the information you need. Look in the "Remarks" section at the bottom of each pdf. http://thewatchsite.com/d1/files/Seiko Technical Manuals/
