Seiko 6117-6400 Question

Hi all,

Looking to tap into some of your expertise. I was on our favorite auction site and found a newly listed 6117. Look up "seiko 6117-6040" as it is listed in error.

Here's the funky thing...the seller states it is an early error dial. What I see is that the placements of "automatic" and "world time" are the reverse of any other I've seen. Fake dial?

Thanks,
Mike

Looks like the "AUTOMATIC" and "WORLDTIME" were applied at a later date...I am no expert

Thanks!
My 6117-6400 with bezel error not dial error. The 6117 was not a early World Time watch. They had the 6200 series back during the 64 Olympics in Tokyo. What the error dial (bezel) is the GMT is next to London and London is over Paris-Rome which is wrong as Paris is +1 hour to London 'where time begins'. :)

So...do you think the photo above (the black and orange model) looks legit? Thanks!

Yeah it looks right to my untrained eyeballs. There is actually a guy selling one of those on this forum. It's been up for sale for years. It's a really clean watch just missing it's original bracelet like the black and red watch. Same colours. Forget what he wants but should come up if you do a search.

Bracelet will be a ***** to find I reckon... could be wrong but .... it drives you mad not being able to find the correct bracelet!

Ok, thanks. This one looks nice but the case looks quite polished. Will give it a think. Thanks!

Think the cases were polished on that model. Only one I've seen not polished was some guy in Wiltshire England who makes everything up out of aftermarket parts and then re-finishes the cases with a brush metal effefct. I could be wrong but I am sure mine has the correct finish as in chrome shine.

Check out my Navigator.... has the same finish and is basically the same watch....

Same case finish.

Mike, IMHO that case has seen at least one Wheel...
You could be right DAHASCO. Crystal doesn't look right profile either. Here's a poster from the '70s showing the high shine finish as standard :) I'd search the previous listings of this forum of a guy listing one for sale. It was super clean just missing it's bracelet.

Forgot you'd offered me one John! Sorry. It's got the GMT error bezel too.

Tough to tell from that pic! Sure wish I could roll in with a few hundred bucks today and have my pick!

I think the top ones are shiny and the bottom ones are brush finished. Only ones I can see that are brushed are ones that people spun in a lathe and not the correct brush metal effect that Seiko always used.

My World Time came from the original owner. It's not even been serviced as far as I am aware. That's shiny :)

John is yours a black chrome finish?
;) That is the McCoy.....
The cases are all polished on these 6117-6400's. Here is a photo of an original one I have that, as far as I can tell, has never been polished. Mine also has the inner bezel with the mistake.

Nice watches to wear these and the Navigators. I've got some lovely Seikos now but I often find myself wearing one of the 6117's. Classy little blighters.
Here's a pic of a NOS one I found on this site a while back. Owned by a senior member.....polished case;

Need to agree - AFAIK, all 6117-64xxs had fully polished cases.

The 6117-640x dials were available with "World Time" and "Automatic" at 6 and 12 o'clock, respectively - and also the other way around!

Best,
Hermann
