Seiko “Day-Date”: genuine JDM or a Frankenstein?

I recently picked up a Seiko quartz day-date homage on a jubilee-style bracelet, but I have questions if it’s a hack job or if it genuinely came from Seiko as-is.

The case is shaped like the (now-discontinued) SGF204, but is (supposedly) stainless steel with a base metal bezel that is chromed & not gold-toned. The caseback notates the same thing, but designates it as a 7N43-8A40. This doesn’t match what the bottom of the dial says: 7N43-8311.

The dial is fully lumed, which adds to the mystery as I haven’t seen another one in this configuration.

This Day-Date homage is ubiquitous across the decades utilizing the 7N43, 5Y23, and even the 6923 quartz movements. Usually, it presents as dual-toned or gold-toned, either sporting a silver dial w/gold indices, an all-gold dial, or the onyx-black/gold indices dial combinations. But the one I present? No mention of it anywhere on the interwebs.

Fit & finish is as expected for stock Seiko. I haven’t seen evidence of it being a mod job. Everything seems to be period-correct for a timepiece from possibly the late-80s or early-90s.

This model isn’t exactly my forte, but I like it a ton. Help in identifying it as either a genuine Seiko piece or a hack job would be much appreciated.

I’d guess It’s a mod, or franken, because of the fully lumed dial, which I’ve only ever seen on dive, or field watches. Just a guess, though. As you mentioned, it’s based on Seiko’s version of a Rolex President. The fact that the dial says mov’t Japan, rather than made in Japan, means
it’s not A JDM watch, or at least the dial isn’t. If the back says Made in Japan, it’s definitely been cobbled together, probably because someone wanted an all lume dial. It could be an AM dial.

I think it looks legit, most of the fully lumed 7N43 watches are tu-tone or fully gold plated, they usually are signed quartz on the dial, they are a sub $50 watch in decent shape. It should date to the mid 90s. Lots of full lume dials back then, tons of Sport 100m watches had them. Enjoy the watch!

So this surely looks 100% genuine as was popular in that time frame.

As to the bracelet, it is in the classic Rolex Jubilee style, not President. Just for record keeping :)

Left to right: Oyster, Jubilee, President

I defer to the guys. One thing for sure is that it’s not a JDM model.

It's likely legit. I've run across a few before. None in real good shape. I passed on a 7009 "5" auto(the only one I ever seen) earlier this year at a flea market. Full lume and in decent shape. I just didn't want to cut loose with the cash that the seller wanted for it.
Cheers!
