Didn't know who Ray Mears is/was; had to do a look-up. For the benefit of those equally uninformed: http://www.ask.com/wiki/Ray_Mears?o=2801&qsrc=999&ad=doubleDown&an=apn&ap=ask.com
Great old no nonsense Promasters. Wish they would bring back into production at some point, even for a limited commemorative run. I sure do cherish mine.Hey I tried to find out more about why he left Citizen for a Rolex. I know Rolex are well made watches...but swinging a golf club or being in the outdoors is not the most ideal spot for an automatic watch.
Personally, I can understand if he went for the money, but he also made it very difficult for his fans to have an affordable tough watch if they want to be like Ray.
As I have said a few times on this forum, Citizen is a love/hate company for me.
They don't even allow optional sapphire upgrades anymore. I'm sure I could get one fitted but it sucks that they don't distribute models people are ordering from overseas anyway.
The Ray Mears model was one of their coolest designs.
That is the same watch as my brother used to wear, we were both avid cavers (until old age got the better of us) I used to wear a 6105 8110.You want to talk hard? This is the toughest, roughest, hardest b-stard watch in the world! It's been run over by land moving vehicles, buried for over a year in my garden, used for 8 years every day while I was a mechanic, covered in red hot weld and put in my fridge freezer for a week by my neice and it still works! I've owned that little bugger since '92 and it only needed a replacement battery in Jan 2013. Ray Mears is a short wearing little girlie compared to my G-Shock!
Wow that's impressive! I thought my little G-Shock was the hardest b-stard on the planet.... in watch terms of course I couldn't believe it when I found my watch after over a year under my flower beds and it was still telling the time and only about 30 seconds out!The G-shock was good, but it didn't beat the 6105.
Thank you for your email.
The watch that Ray currently wears has sentimental value, however does not keep very good time. The watch he would recommend is the GWS H3 G10 Pro Diver Watch that we stock on our website;
