Picked up this really strong runner from September 1996 which would be one of the last ones made, if they were still making the 150m diver at that time. Thought they had moved to the -7039 200m by the end. But then again Sept. 1986 seems to be too early especially with a Singapore signed movement? Curious as to what others think about a 69XXXX case back date 7002-7000.

Singapore marked bridge.
7002 (Danai logo) 700R R dial code
Nice ghost bezel
Hands look real.

What do you guys think - anything aftermarket? Mish-Mosh mash-up?
Pure legit? Eager to hear what kind of light our knowledgeable members can shed on this one .

I think the tell tale indication would be which style bezel does it have: Click ball or click spring? Click ball would be an earlier style and most likely 86'. Click spring would be the later style and most likely 96'. All bets are off if the case back isn't original to the case....lol

Looks like a crusty original to me - the earliest 7002 I've owned was a 7009 from May 1988 and the latest I've owned was a 7001 from July 1993.

From what I've seen 7002-700X were in production from 1988 - 1996 and I've never seen one earlier than '88 - my un-expert opinion is that you have a late production 7000 150m example from '96 - or at least a case back from that year.

Here's something to chew on: Just because they had the later 7002-7039's 200m variants in production doesn't mean they stopped producing the 700X 150m variants. The 7548 divers produced the 200m Professional variants ('84-'85 mostly) while they still produced the 150m 7548 variants in the same time period through the end of their production.

Tom @SeikoPsycho2 good thing to check, it is a click ball mid case. But I am not 100% certain that 7002-7000 divers were transitioned to the click spring/120 detent arrangement. According to what I read in most places only the -7039 200m version converted over to click spring. Happy to educated by those in the know.

Thank you Todd. To add to what you say, from the Buyers Guide, version WUS, "The 7002 line of divers replaced the 6309 in 1988 and ran until 1996 " Later down is the statement " the first generation continued in production right to the end of the entire model line's (first and second generation) production run." So the case back is 1996.

NOTE there is no Daini lightning bolt after the A but before the STAINLESS STEEL which according to what I read is a "must" I thought 'maybe it is there just been rubbed away" which is very common I understand. But then under massive magnfication one can clearly see it was never stamped in. Very intriguing. I've seen enough fake/fraud case backs, this checks out as true Seiko in every way I rule out the notion it is counterfeit.

Still very interested in hearing from resident 7002-7000 diver experts. I compared this dial to other known genuine dials in my collection and a few fake dials in my spares box, now totally and 99.9% convinced every single part is OEM and genuine to the original watch. September 1996 too so one of the last ones.

I did find an old FS post by Gatsuk here on SCWF with another 7002 case back dated to September 1996, that being a 7002-700A serial no. 690153 (Sept. 1996)

Put it on a spare OEM GL831 and it's ready to rock:

Hmmm...the dial print isn't as "crisp" as it should be but maybe its the photo (and maybe I'm completely wrong and it is an original dial) I love the Singapore branded bridges and that insert though!
Enjoy your 7002!
EDIT: just saw your comment about the dial.

Looks fake to me Jon. Dial and handset.
Your opinion is always respected. Thanks Guy.

Let me add some more and better photos. I have 3 other real and 3 fake dials, it will take a lot of convincing that this one is not genuine. The hands might not be genuine or perhaps genuine but not original to this watch but that too requires better close-ups.

Hello, I’m a learner, but looks like the dial was rarely exposed to the sun, with those very red water and resist, while hands and bezel lived a lot more outdoor. Doesn’t it?
I was thinking the same thing. The condition of the bezel does not match the condition of the dial. Also, the lume on the hands is much more degraded than the lume on the dial. It could very well be that all the parts are OEM Seiko, but cobbled together from different 7002-7000s.
