Use a freeware program like Irfanview - you can set a specific size and get it to convert singly or a whole directory of files in a second

I have an easy cheat. Set up a photobucket account. Set the size limit to something that works with the forum (1200x800). Upload your image to PB. You can now either deeplink it to the board, or simply download the image from PB to your PC. It will be resized. The beauty of doing this is that you have access to PB from any computer that is connected to the web, so you don't have to have specialized software and can resized in a pinch. the downside is that you can't specify the output sixe, but it will be plenty small file sizes for most sites, while retaining a good viewable area.

Well, only disadvantage is that you don't have control and at least a couple of years ago the sizing algorithm of PB sucked!
So better resample (not resize) it with e.g. irfanview before uploading it to PB.

Perhaps, but as I said, the advantage is being able to use it anywhere without downloading. Just last week I helped a member upload a picture this way remotely. his picture was over 2gb. PB resized it down to about 110K, but still retained a pretty decent viewable area that fit perfectly within the forum max. The pic looked pretty decent for what it was. As I said above, It's just an option.
