Sure...! Join a Japanese: Seiko / Citizen Watch Forum and start out with an Indian watch! :undecided: is anybody familiar with this brand and their numbering system? Is my cheapo vintage watch real? Or, is it 3 or 4 watches pieced together? Worse yet - is it a total knock-off? I am clueless! The good news is I paid next to nothing for it and it looks great for what it is "supposed" to be. OK now some specifics. Brand is HMT. Model is a Kajal Deluxe. Type is an Automatic / Kinetic / Shaker Thingie. Gender is Men's. Stated to be 21 Jewels. Machine or manufacturer Part Number is stated to be 6500. Serial Number is 650187. Additionally; there is a number inside on the winder thingy that says 8205. It also says HMT 21 jewels in there. I am overly suspicious of this beast as it seems to be running pretty good with an accuracy of less than a minute fast per day! Can an old automatic do this? Dial is Goldish in color and appears real as it is "imperfect" with "minor" flaws - required a mag glass to really see them- except one. I do not think it repainted as their is some really, really small print at the 6:00 position I believe impossible to reproduce even for a good painter type person. Crystal is not scratched at all! can't be real! Not glass, nor plastic... not sure what it is. This beast shines like a flashlight. The bezel and back are probably stainless steel. Clearly stated as such. Crown is just a crown - no marking at all. Looks like it fits / belongs on the watch. Now the band! I should not call it a band. I should call it a Collar for walking your Rat! It is a super cheapola Chinese Leatherish (from the beast called The Nauga?") super thin almost cardboardish pos! To call it a band is insulting to watch bands everywhere. I suspect sale of such an abomination does not exceed 15 Cents - at best. It is 16mm. It does not even qualify as patent leather in my opinion. Anything else ya want to know just ask. Thanks to all in advance for any replies. I will attempt to post a picture for it later.

Well... I have been searching like a madman and "seem" to have come up with a few answers. My watch is a real watch - not a knock-off! It also seems it is one original watch - not several spliced together. The 8205 is the movement number. Ergo; the seller was wrong when he stated it was a 6500. I will just have to be generous and forgive him. I found pictures of a Kajal Deluxe and they looks pretty much exactly like what I posted previously - right down to the Golden colored dial etc... The expert of the day stated the watch was manufactured sometime in the 1990's. That would make the watch 23 years old at most. The article was a comparison between the two movements, 8500 and 6500 - with clear photo's of both! I got a seemingly authentic HMT Kajal Deluxe with the correct movement - 8500! Salesman was wrong on 2 points: Movement and age, as he said it was 30-40, not 20-30 years old. I did not pay very much for this watch. I wondered why so few were bidding on it, as the ratings for the seller were quite high with large sale numbers. That is the only reason I gambled on it. I know little to nothing about watches currently and am a slow learner. I tossed in a Bid of (I think it was about) 19.00 on a one click bid - with 3 seconds to go and won the watch at $15.50! Why did I bid on it? I just liked it is all. I saw it and I liked it so I winged it and won. :) As to my interest in watches... This is new. I been a tinkering with some old Seiko's and Timex's etc. Started with some basic watch tools and changing batteries. Then a touch of clean and oil here and there. Now a HMT. Why? I am 60 years old, semi-retired (PC Guru) and I need to keep busy and still have some fun. So sue me LOL. On to my next question... They seem to throw interesting words around with these watches. ie. Vintage, Rare, Authenticated, Original - I just love superlatives! Given there seems to be absolutely no end to the supply or demand for these watches - How do any of those words apply? Lastly; is some nut hoarding all the Stainless Steel Bands that are supposed to go with these watches? Where have all the watch bands gone? Let My Watch Bands Gooooooo! :) last minute re-edit! I made a mishnook! I double checked and I won this watch for $13.49 inc. ship etc. - not $15.50 I still like it and will find an HMT 16mm band for it too :)

Hello again folks!... Ya know that watch band I was bad mouthing previously... It broke! LOL Why does this not surprise me. Yes; I just so happen to have a spare 16 mm Stainless Steel Band. It is one of the 3-5 dollar ones from ebay. It works. It matches the watch. It is adjusted for length, centered and on the watch. Looks pretty good too. I should have put it on right away, but I was lazy - serves me right. I still search for a cheap HMT band.

Welcome.

Don't know anything about HMTs but it looks nice ! This is the sort of thing that is coming out of India (I'm assuming that's where it came from ?) all the time at what is commonly known as "Lunch Money". Although it's maybe not advisable to buy this kind of thing on a regular basis !!!!!! sometimes you get a good one, even NOS. It's exactly the sort of thing that I started off with, though my weakness is vintage Seikos.

Trouble is.................. once you start looking into other similar watches you come across others that are infinitely better.

Then you end up with lots of watches, and only one (or two) wrist(s) to wear them on.

And an empty bank account.

And a grumpy wife.

Mind you, she was grumpy before I started collecting watches !:57:

Theres a couple of HMTs lurking at the back of my watch shelf.... Can't say I've ever worn them... I dare say they'll be back on eBay before Christmas...
Amazing lume!! They are always the standout ones when the lights go out.

I found a 16mm HMT Stainless Steel band for the watch! India - where else would it be, LOL. It is going to cost me almost 3/4 of what the watch cost! LOL. So be it! I really, really like this strange watch with the the Hindi or whatever as it's original primary language - it does have english as well. It is going to be my every day wear watch for awhile, until I find another watch I like :) It may not be worth much now, but I can leave it to my son and / or grandson. It might be worth something by then. Ya never know!
