Hello all,

First off, my apologies if this is posted in the wrong place or it has been answered before; searched the forum and came-up empty. Anyway, cleaned out a drawer last week and found this Seiko I forgot I had. The numbers on the back are: 5M42-0C39 and 501613. The watch is working, but is not holding a charge overnight; as long as I am wearing it, it keeps time perfectly. Anyway, just wondering how old it is and what value, if any, it may have. Was thinking of gifting it to a nephew.

It does have value. And a watch passed along in a family would have lots more value to your nephew.
For fairly cheaply you can ebay a capacitor replacement kit to get it running again. Or take watch and kit to a real watchmaker for a quick swapover.

It is a nice watch you have there. Possibly a October 1995 based on the serial number and dial logo.

Geez, what difference does monetary value make when you're gifting it to a nephew??
People here can generally sniff out C&B stories - hence why you received no answer.
Valuation can be had from googling old sales ads.

Active participants in the forum are far more likely to receive replies to their requests for information. As was mentioned, you will have far more luck establishing value by visiting auction sites and sales forums. I hope your relative will enjoy that watch!

Thank you squarebear and JohnWN, that's all I wanted to know. Not sure what a "C&B story" is, just trying to determine if in fact it was worth something, thus I would make sure my nephew will take good care of it, that is all. The watch has already been passed to him.

Mate, it's not like we all sit refreshing our browser pages so we can instantly attend to every "What watch is this and how much is it worth?" question from people who register only to ask their one question and disappear again, especially when people get snarky when no one gives them what they want.

Wow, okay, so his second post was a bit snarky - but his first post was typical of somebody going to the trouble of searching out an appropriate venue for his question and he gets accused of coming up with a cock and bull story? Ouch. Then he gets told people haven't got the time to answer or maybe the inclination and a guess that he's just going to disappear.
Sort of have to wonder why he'd want to stick around after the warm welcome. The point about active members questions being more likely to get answered is a valid one - but HOW is someone going to get active here when they come with a specific question and it gets ignored?
Heck, I'm here after almost 40 years of interest in watches, have at least some knowledge to share but after 40+ posts some of my stuff still gets ignored so that sort of lessens the urge to participate. Not a criticism of the forum but more of an honest observation. Maybe some people could reconsider how the place appears to newcomers is all.

PS: I was a participant on the old network54 forum years ago until real life got in the way and I had to curtail a lot of my interests for about a 10 year stretch.
