Hi All,
I was on a family trip to Bangkok and was celebrating my birthday in May.
My family decided that a antique flea market visit should be part of the trip. We were at the Chatuchak market and there is a antique mall called the DD mall where we went for a short visit.
There are many stall that keep vintage watches. One watch caught my eye. It was a vintage Lord Marvel 5740 8000. I do not know much about this watch but I liked how it looked. With a bit of hagling it was mine for about $ 120/-.
Let me show you all the watch. I have a few questions on it though.

My question is this watch all original ? Dial is a rare configuration of wich ony o few images are found on the net even after much searching. Is it a redial?
Watch has the rare cal5740 B. In it.
All comments on this watch are very welcome. Watch case and especially the caseback are very good.

My wife was in a generous mood and wanted to buy an watch for me. She picked up the Omega speedmaster mark 4.5. Watch is in good condition and looks all original too. Price was about $2600/- which thought not cheep was a little below the price they seem to be going for. It was also functioning as expected.

All comments are welcome. Thanks for looking.

JaRe

Nice watches. Did you pay US $?
Lovely finds. The cases on both look sharp and unpolished.

Yes I converted the THB to USD for the post.

Your 5740-8000 is the much less common B movement variant. It runs at 19800 (edit), not 36000, like the later versions, but the movement does hack. They're easy to spot by the script font under the Seiko name on the dial. Looks really nice.

That Omega is pretty sweet too.

The Lord Marvel looks sweet to me!

Yours is a 1965 model which has a very similar case to the classic 36,000 bph model released in 1967.
Although yours does not have the high bhp, I think it does hack which the later movement does not, so you win some, you lose some I guess
The nicest feature IMO is that combination of applied Seiko badge with the hand written Lord Mavel script - an unusual combo and in a watch in this condition I'd say a great find!

The crown on the Lord Marvel looks like a replacement but that shouldn’t matter. The movement number is in line with case number, and case and dial look crisp and fine. The 5740B is a lovely movement. Congrats, great find! Here’s mine (one month older) for reference - of which I’m fairly certain it’s original:

Wow thanks for sharing these pictures. I was worried that the watch was a redial. Seeing your pictures makes me want to restore this watch sooner rather than later.

Yes the watch was produced for a short period only. It however beats at 19800 bpm.

These watches were made for a short period of time, and I got several of them. The 5740B movement was replaced by the 5740 in December 1966.
Yours should clean up fast after polishing the crystal. Nice watch! And also a nice Omega.
I am hunting down of the 4th version (Arabic SGP-version) to complete the series...

Two great purchases JaRe. That Seiko movement is gorgeous. Reminds me of the Seiko 44 I did for a client a while back. The Omega Speedy Mark 4.5 is to die form. I have two Mark IIs and love these watches. Enjoy and thanks for sharing.

Great job on that Omega, and those movements are just phenomenal. Your numbers are spectacular and in a 50 year old watch after a service! This is why I like Seiko and Omega so much

Incredible finds. The 5740's are some of my favorites to look at: so clean, unassuming, and classy. The omega has me at a loss for words. Just a fantastic watch. Gosh I want to find things like this at my local flea markets, all I ever see is trash buckets full of crap that you need to take with you to get the bucket. Congrats on the finds.
