New beater for a fiver

Just picked up this one in a junk lot for just over £5, It's not perfect as the dial has some blemishes but is running like a top with zero beat error at +4 per day.
All I know about it is its a j13060 and has a 395 caliber dated 1963.
It looks above average quality to me but then everything seems to be better made the older it is (except me),
Any further info would be great,

Great case back :)
Great case back :)
Cheers John, I like the fact that you could probably use a ring spanner if it got stuck :p

I knew you were going to say that! lol read your convo the other day on case backs. Very interesting :)

Nice looking watch and I'd say a total bargain at a fiver!

39 Jewels and a crown on the back... had a quick google, it's a "precursor to the 1st Generation Automatic Grand Seiko models", for £5 I'd call that a pretty spectacular result!

Hi
I stumbled across that page myself and as you say it looks to be one of their better models back in the early 60's.
Having worn it now for the day I've grown to very much like it, I like the slightly weathered dial, I did consider cleaning the hands and indices as it's that sort of dirt that comes of easy with rodico but I've decided to leave them as found, whenever I start polishing or spending money tarting a watch up I also start to baby them so it's just going to be a new crystal and gaskets for this one so it can be a true beater as intended when I bid for it.

Talking of crystals, If anyone knows the part number for this model I'd be grateful,
I have nothing in my casing guide for this one and I'm coming up empty on borel's and boley's database.

Keep looking, but if you come up empty-handed, maybe consider the 329W04AN, it is used on the J13061, 2, and 4. If 32.9 seems too large, another old crystal is the 327W01AN, used on the J13081. No guarantee that either would fit- I've no direct experience with that model.
that is a great watch for a amazing price....great find...love the band

Thanks for the info Noah, I have a decent vernier so I'll pop the crystal some time this week and compare to those two part numbers, fingers crossed you may have saved me much googling,
all the best
