Hey folks- it's been a long time for me- but i'm getting back into the watch thing. I've had a bunch of seikos over the years and really like my Marine Master. I've just had a milestone in my career and was considering a grand Seiko. Now that it's been out for a while, what is the long term word on the spring drive? How is reliability? What about service- do you have to send them back to Japan? Not to be harsh, but in the cold light of day, is this just a gimmick and would it be wiser to just get a conventional auto movement?

THANKS!

I've heard of no issues with the spring drives. I've had mine several years and have had no problems. For service it has to go back to Japan.

As to whether it's a gimmick or not if that is how you think of it, it's wiser to buy a conventional watch. You buy one because you want one plain and simple.
