I notice something strange about the King Seiko 5626 and the case back medallion.

Somehow not all of them have the medallion. Even the chronometer versions don't necessarily have it. What's up with that? Did it depend on the production year or something?

It is really strange :p

My 1972 KS had no medallion:

I'm asking because I saw a 5626-7041 chronometer for sale on another forum. I'm mildly interested, but it seems on the expensive side. Its case back is plain SS and the style isn't even as nice as your plain SS case back. A bit of Google'ing shows that other purported 5626-7041 also have that plain SS case back. I find it rather strange for a chronometer KS and wonder if all those samples are really legit.

It's an production year thing.
The 7041 has a plain screwdown case back, the 7040 has a horsshoe case back and a one pice case. The medalion is on the pre 72 models I think.

Startsomething probably have som more acurate dates :)

This is the most common 562X case back types
