Hello,

I have Citizen Skyhawk radio controlled, does any one know why my watch changes the year to 2016. I manually change it to current date but next day it's back to year 2016. Even when I sync with atomic time still showing year 2016. I also tried to reset the watch but when I sync it goes back to year 2016.

thank you for your help.

Please provide the serial number of your watch. If it starts with 7 it means the watch is an early 2007 build that may have not yet receive the firmware update to correct the Feb 28, 2010 date problem.

That particular problem should only put the in-built calendar out by one day, not six years. I'd say the watch needs to visit a Citizen service centre for diagnosis and correction of the fault.

[Edit] OK, so going by the post below, I was wrong! :-[ I could have sworn the original info from Citizen was that after synching, affected modules would show only a day's error, but it seems they've now updated that info. Just goes to show that a) I shouldn't swear, and b) everyone makes mistakes -- even me! ???

This is a known problem which involves the watch to visit Citizen customer service. I found this in the FAQ section of the US site. If you live elsewhere, contact your local customer service center and I'm sure Citizen will take care of you.

My Skyhawk AT is showing the wrong date and the year is 2016. How do I correct this?

The factory has discovered a software anomaly in the calendar programming of the integrated circuit that affects some Skyhawk AT and other styles utilizing the U600 movement caliber produced in only 2007 for those watches receiving either the U.S. or Japanese time signals. Those customers receiving the German time signals or have pieces manufactured in other years are not affected. This anomaly results in the calendar displaying dates from 2016 even though the year is 2010. Rest assured no other production series, feature, function, aesthetic portion or other Skyhawk series timepiece is affected.
If your 2007 production Skhyawk AT shows the year 2016, we are ask you to send the watch for updating.
Once your watch receives the software update, there will be a small dot punched on your caseback in front of the serial number. Our goal is to have your watch returned to you in two weeks once it is received by us.
If you are located in the United States, please email us the following information so that we may arrange a prepaid shipping label with UPS for you

[email protected]

Your Name
Company (if you are going to return from your place of work)
Address (don't forget any apartment or suite number)
City, State, Zip Code
Telephone number
Email address
If you prefer, you may also call us at 800 321 1023 x4234 with the information. Do be aware that our telephones may be very busy so hold times could be longer than we would like.
Once the label is arranged, you will receive an email from UPS with instructions on sending your watch. Be sure to pack the watch securely in a sturdy box (do not send the original packaging or materials), tape the label to the box and submit the package to one of the many UPS drop off locations throughout the United States. If you are located outside the U.S, please contact your nearest service center for direction.
We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

I returned mine to COA in May for the software update. After contacting them through their web site they emailed a pre-paid UPS label. From the day I initially contacted them until I received the watch back was 18 days. They even included the print-out of the water resistance test showing 20.877 bar. Quite impressive I must say.

I may have misquoted myself but yes, this is still the infamous calendar problem that affects Skyhawk's built in 2007 and for which requires a trip back to COA to have the firmware updated.
