So yesterday I was once again trawling our favorite action site, when this popped up:

Watch Analog watch Clock Watch accessory Measuring instrument

Motor vehicle Font Nickel Automotive tire Gas

A 7005-8032 with a BIN of €39. The watch was put up for sale at 16.49 CET and listed at as a non-runner but considering the condition of the dial and hands I thought it was definitely worth the shot. So, without hesitation, I smashed the Buy It Now button, immediately paid using PayPal and received a conformation of the order. It was 16.51 CET and I felt really satisfied.

Then, at 18.11 CET, totally out of the blue, I received an email informing me that the seller had cancelled my order and that I had gotten a refund on my PayPal account. Reason for cancellation: Out of stock or damaged.

WTF? I didn’t even know that a seller could do that after an order was confirmed. I immediately send him a message asking for clarification and to his credit he quickly replied, in Spanish, stating “yes it's already sold thanks”. Yes, sold to me, right? Wrong. After some more emails, he finally offered me his apologies and confessed that he had sold the watch to somebody else on another platform. For a much higher price, I suspect.

Of course, I looked for information cancelling an order by a seller after payment is acceptable on Ebay and to my surprise it appears to be so. Another reason why I dislike the platform.

Did anybody here have a similar experience and is there really no possibilty to file a complaint or something like that?

Thanks.

This is one of the reasons that over the years I have told members not to post about "bargains etc" they have won on ebay until they had received the watch because of guys contacting the seller and offering more, it happened a few times in the past to my knowledge.

That stinks! The only time I've had a seller cancel was on an old Bulova - I got a very apologetic email that was sent after they dropped the watch while packaging it. I checked back for awhile to see if it was ever relisted, but nothing ever popped back up.

The same thing happened to me last week, regarding a barely used M2 MacBook Pro. It was priced at just $700. I smashed that BIN button, and couldn’t believe my luck. I also paid immediately, and got the confirmation of the order. About an hour later, Seller sent me a message saying he was offered more money from someone else, but if I would match that price, I could still have it. Naturally, I did not respond favorably, told him he was breaking eBay selling rules. Then I got the message and email that Seller cancelled the sale and I was refunded. I was very angry. Seller claimed that I had cancelled the order. Also, last week, I finally won an auction for a Moon Swatch, at a fairly reasonable price, and Seller cancelled and refunded me, saying he misplaced the item. So, twice in a week. eBay said there is nothing they can do. I was able to lodge a formal written complaint, against them. The hard part was figuring out how to get a real person to talk to, at eBay. It has become much harder to contact someone. It is also very inconvenient to have to wait 3-5 business days to have your credit card refunded, when this happens.

Some guys have all the luck......

My favorite was when the guy said it was stolen, so when he relisted it a few weeks later all parted out under his other account I wrote back and told him "I found your stolen watch, look it's the same case back number let me call the local police" but he then said "oh no don't do that, I'll handle it" and when I reported him as running a scam acros 2 different accounts eBay said "nothing we can do"

The good news is you can still leave them negative feedback (at least recently unless they changed it) and Ebay now allows more than 50 characters so you can leave a detailed negative feedback. I believe Ebay deletes the history after 45 days so you will need to do it fast. The sale might still show up on your summary page otherwise you will have to try and access it through the Bids and Offers page or Purchase History page or on the messages page you should be able to access the original listing through the cancelletion notification and can hopefully find a Leave Feedback link through one of those places.

Dunno, 39 is a score...but to me that dial looks like it is missing markers and not the best...just hold out for better and save the pennies I guess. Not sure if I would honour a 39 euro sale if I'm then offered over 10 or 20x that... maybe more. Would you?🤷‍♂️

That said I just sold an skx011k at auction for 180 quid....and I ain't gonna cancel knowing I paid twice that for it.. so...😫

You are right about the missing markers. Noticed that after buying it, probably my eagerness was stronger than my sense of judgement at the time.

I have never been in the position where it did get a higher offer after the sale, but, to be honest, an offer of 10 times higher would be very tempting. On the other hand, it would also imply that have not done my homework very well, so I should take the punishment for that and not the original buyer.
