Hi All - I have a GL-831 strap which is matte (not shiny). I know the early circa 1970's ones looked fairly shiny. Were any later ones made with more of a matte finish? It has the correct markings and the buckle is marked Seiko St.Steel Japan. Thanks -Ronbo

I was under the impression that all GL-831's somewhat mat and only became shiny with age and wear. At least that's been my experience with all the ones I've had. the rubber used on them was prone to wear and degradation, and in my experience, became smoother and shinier as the strap aged.
I had to buy some GL-831 for my H558 during the 80ies and 90ies,
when those were still around to be bought at Seiko AD's.
The straps were matte, and I remember It was like replacing and old-worn-cool pare of Jeans with a new one.
I remember using some acetone (nail polish remover) in order to give the new straps a "used" look
The last 6309 I got a few weeks back was all original and it came with an original GL, still good but used and shiny.
