So, I bought the modded 6309 on the right years ago on the old forum.

I got it serviced when I lived in California, and it worked fine for a while, except the crown is stripped. I think the repairman did a crappy job and 99% stripped the crown. I say that because I've never stripped a crown or anything threaded in a LONG time :)

The other 6309 has an obvious set of AM hands, the second hand has decided to set itself free from the movement.

I love the modded watch a lot ( I have an original 6309 already), so tomorrow I'm going to Harbor Freight to buy a caseback tool. I'm hoping this is an easy stem swap, as the threads on the cases both look decent. Anyone know a source for a replacement? I'd like to mod the original dialed watch eventually. Glad to be back here- it's been a long while!!!!

Crown and stem swap will be dead easy. Unscrew the crown (but don't pull it out) press the button on the movement to release the stem, pull it out. Reverse to put them back in.
If you decide to mid the original one then send me the old dial and chapter ring :)

That is a nice old dial! Just the right grayish color on the lume pads.
I wonder why mine never seem to turn grey like that?
Maybe I'm just lucky in other ways.
Hope your crown/stem replacement goes well!

Well, found a surprise in the modded 6309- it has a 6349A movement, which I'm guessing is an upgrade of sorts.

The bad news is that it seems that the threads on the case are no bueno, as the crown worked on the other case.

I don't know if I can swap the guts of the watches, as I am under the impression that I would need to remove the crystal to do so. If that's the case, I will need to find someone (preferably local, to make one great watch out of both watches.

HELL YES!

So- I kind of gave up yesterday, thinking I'd need a watchmaker/repairman swap out movement/face/bezel between cases.

Nah- today I figured I'd give it a shot or two. Now I have the AM dial/hands/6349A movement in the case that contained the AM hands/orig dial/6309 movement.

I'd like to find a replacement crown/stem- any leads for that?

Well, great job on the movement swap!
I think you might be able to find the crown and stem on Ebay.
I'm short a couple crowns and stems myself or I'd send you one.
I've bought a few bare cases for 6309-7040 and they usually don't come with crowns. Then, in changing out some of the movements, I misplaced one of the crowns and stems so I may end up having to source a set of those myself.
Sometimes, I buy a 6309-7290 diver just so I can harvest the parts. Those seem to go for about $125-$150 and you can often find them with nice movements, crowns/stems. {Look for the sellers out of Australia, NOT the Philippines}.
I'll take a look around to see what I can find.

Thanks! It seems that I saw a post by someone who replaced the crown tube on a 6309 case- I'm going to search that out- I'd love an orange Soxa mod!

Those bare cases I bought were about $125 each. If you find a bare case, that's a better deal than trying to fix yours. I found all three on Ebay last year.
