Hello!
I will start by saying that I am absolutely in love with my new watch by Citizen! When I was a child I had a Smart Watch, in highschool I had a Nixon Player, and now after years of reading the time on my smartphone I finally bought myself this kick ass titanium watch by Citizen:

What really attracted me to this watch was never needing to change the battery, but after reading the manual I have a concern. The manual says that if the watch is exposed to saltwater regularly the gaskets need to be replaced every 6 months to maintain its waterproofing. So I never have to change the battery but the watch still has to be serviced twice a year? That is a drag!

As a boat captain the watch is constantly exposed to saltwater and the waterproofing is really important. But do I really need to change the gaskets so often? I would like to scuba dive with my watch so I want to play it safe, but id also like to have maintenance done at more reasonable intervals.

Could a seasoned Japanese watch enthusiast please offer some insight to how water resistant a WR 100 Citizen really is, and how often the gaskets should be replaced to maintain this? Thank you so much!

I don't know that model in particular, but I am thinking that it was not designed as a dive watch, and hence the limitations on exposure to salt water.

There are plenty of similar Citizen Eco-Drive watches that are rated for diving, that may be a better choice to wear driving the boat.

You can always wear that beauty as a dress watch, for which it may be more more "suit"able!

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone! I look forward to jumping into the forum's discussions.

This model of watch is rated as being water resistant to 100 meters so I figured it was designed for the water. Obviously i will never dive to 333 feet but knowing what I know now I will take it off before scuba diving. Unfortunately I don't have the budget to go out and buy another Citizen with a higher water resistance right away but maybe someday in the future I can upgrade to one of those beauties posted above.

Interestingly it appears that needing to change the gasket every 6 months applies to ALL Citizen watches, not just this model. I read that information in my manual so I knew it applied to my watch, but now I have also found the information in link to the general FAQ:

"If the watch is exposed to chlorinated pools, soaps salt water, etc. on an occasional basis, we recommend that the gaskets be changed on a yearly basis. If the watch is exposed to the previously mentioned environments on a daily basis, we recommend the gaskets be changed every six months to insure the water resistant quality."

Do any owners of Citizen watches here on the forum change their gaskets this often? How would I go about doing this? Is this covered by my 5 year warrenty? Thanks for all of the help!
