Anyone care to venture a guess what model this is based on the terrible photo?

so, SKX0031J? It's a JDM variant?

EDIT:

I got hold of the seller - he says it's a 7S26-0050 - aren't those the white-faced ones? SN 670005. He says he "bought it new" but "off the internet". No box, threw out the extra links. Wants $75, says he just never wears it. Prefers plastic watches like G-Shocks.

Am not sure of the dial variants on these newer models and how they relate to the movement-casing numbers. Unfortunately, I find the retail sales number, i.e.: SKX0031J, totally useless in my end of the business. These numbers do not relate at all when tracking parts which is what a major portion of my efforts entail.

I've found some references to an -0050 that show the black face with a single line of text above 6 (no "21 Jewels"). It doesn't appear to have been a popular model for whatever reason. A "midsize" diver, also referred to as a "Submariner", meaning that it's sort of a Rolex knockoff in terms of style? I'm guessing. I'll have to see it, but really why do I need a semi-modern used Seiko in a style that I'm not in love with..

...I'd rather put the money into another 6139, like a blue-faced 6139-6020! >:D

I believe this is the SKX013 which is a mid size diver in the series. The SKX023 is the same size but has the crown at 4 o'clock like it's bigger brother, the SKX007.

This watch will likely have the older 7s26A movement as I don't think these smaller models are still in production.

so bottom line - would you or anyone pay $75 or lowball an offer on a watch a few years old with missing links, no box or papers, from Craigslist?

7s26-0050=SKX027(White dialed diver)
7s26-0040=SKX031/33(mid-sized Black/Pepsi diver)
Of course these are only rated @ 10 BAR/100m
My Guess is that this is a SKX031. Not a bad price for it, in my opinion.

Cheers!

The 7s26-0050 is only the case model. In that case will be found the black dial(SKX023), white dial(SKX027) and any other variants. The dial code will be different but the case code is the same.

The hands on the watch in question are not from the SKX031 but rather the SKX023. The case around the lugs is also slightly different than the SKX031.

I wouldn't touch this watch on Craigs List since it can probably be found for less on ePrey with some protection to the buyer :)

I tend to agree with the Ice Bird but if you were up to do a mod it might be OK as long as it's running well.

I did this a year and a half ago. 7S26-0040 with aftermarket Planet Ocean insert, aftermarket 6105 hand set, "fiver" dial form who knows what (I think I got it from Noah but can't remember) and a 24mm (!) oyster-style bracelet from Alpha Watch...

I call it my "Seikomegalex" as it's got elements from all of their dive watches. The bracelet gives considerable Rolex-style heft without over-powering the the somewhat "mid-size" case. The P/O insert gives a very pleasant break to the black on black of the dial and standard insert. And the 6105 hands are just as gorgeous now as when I first saw them in the early '70s. It's a great size, not too big/not too small and an enjoyable change from the 4:00 crowns.

Here's the sterilized back...

I would lowball, and if I won it make a Milsub homage mod. Domed sapphire, no date dial, sword hands, NATO...

I've been wanting a Milsub for a while now. I'm all out of funds currently (what's new?), but by the time Dan releases the 5517 and 9411 I might just have the $$$ again! :D

I shouldn't laugh. He's a great guy and I really feel for him with the troubles he's had...

Wow, that is absolutely brilliant! While the SKX031's a nice conservative watch, this is just beautiful. Especially if it was a throw-away as it seems to have been.

And agree with Pete, the watch in OP's pic is almost definitely the SKX023, the minute hand just stand out (and the hour hand looks too short for the 031). Dunno how hard it would be to find parts for a 38mm watch as vs. the 40mm of the 031.... and the bracelet also looks somewhat scuffed in that shot of his, though that could be the flash... lowball it! :D

Thanx! I didn't think of that case # being used for the SKX023/25 as well as the 027. Guess you learn something new every day!

Cheers!
