I like it because that's how I have my e-mail inboxes set and most other forums that I visit .

I find it sort of funny that people mention things shown 'in the post above'...but I'm used to automatically transposing 'above' with 'below' ;)

I don't. I find it hard to follow a conversation by reading the posts in reverse order. I use the "Go to 1st unread post" feature and then read the posts sequentially from there.

I use it sequentially with the newest post at the bottom. When developing the site, we intentionally set the default this way, as it is a more natural way of following a conversation. if you use it in conjunction with the orange "NEW" link, then following a thread should be very easy, and you should have no need to read through the entire thing.

The funny thing is that the PM system default layout was intentionally set in reverse (newest on top) by default. PM's are defaulted to be viewed as an entire conversation. since no others would be chiming in on the conversation but the parties involved, it proved far easier and more natural to see the newest messages right on top.

I'd feel like I was driving on the wrong side of the road (READ: left) if I read posts like that.
I guess wrong side is relative, depending where you live. :D
