One more step towards the perfectly pimped 007.

Mine would have:

  • 6r15
Domed Sapphire with inner AR (rayban bronze)
    SKX171 Dial
    Super Oyster Bracelet with SEL
    MM300 clasp
It starts getting really price (Sumo $+) but I just love the 7002 / SKX007 case. If anybody develops a ceramic or sapphire bezel insert for these I'm pulling the trigger.

Not since the 7S26B was released, no. What would I gain?

I find the 6r15 better in many areas:

Hack

Hand wind

Better factory regulation (My 2 6r15s are in the -3/+4 secs per day arena... COSC like performance)

Better finishing of the movement

Better power reserve/accuracy thanks to the use of Seiko's Spron 510 mainspring material (50-55 hours power reserve vs 40ish in the 7S)

You get to pay for those goodies. The 7S26b is decent and probably sufficient for most people. But the 6r15 brings the 7s to a whole new world of accuracy and refinement, well worth the premium.

I guess it comes down to what you need. I've never found hacking to be of much real world use, handwinding is only necessary with an auto if you want to keep it running on your desk, and although you are likely correct about the better factory regulation, it's pretty simple to regulate the 7S26B to better than 5 sec/day. I'm not slamming the 6R, just noting that the basic Seiko divers with the B movement are a great value in tool watches as they are.

I talked with Noah about adding a 6r15 with the day wheel grafted onto it for one of my mods. He sort of waffled on the day wheel conversion, or I think I would have made the switch. The watch in question has a day date dial, and I don't want to change it.

Very risky to try and add these parts to a 6R15, or even to mess with them on a 7S26. The 6R15 also is not a day/date movmement, and we're still awaiting answers from SII on interchangeability of parts from the 7S in this application. It's not quite so simple as "grafting" it on.

I recall all that from Noah's emails Jake. If you ever do get the details worked out to add the day wheel, get back with me. I am still interested in that mod.

PS, I didn't mean to imply that the two of you where somehow unwilling to do the work. It was of course more a matter of it may not work as intended if you made the attempt, and therefore didn't want to sell an unreliable mod.
