I just picked up another Seikomatic* and its crown spins freely but won't pull out to set the time (something clearly stated in the ebay listing). Other than that the watch shows no signs of abuse or rust, starts up quickly when shaken, and keeps running for a few hours with very little effort.

Any ideas on what might be happening? There is a new crown specific to the model available in Japan - should I jump on that?

Thanks!

*It's a Blue Yacht and only cost $57!! The seller's pics made it look way worse than it is - other than a beat-up crystal, it is in nearly perfect shape. Sorry, kind of excited...

You would need to take it apart and see why. It’s common for the crown gasket to fail over 50 plus years and rust the keyless works.

Update after a visit to the local watchmaker - the gasket on the crown had become swollen and dried out to the point that it was stuck firmly inside the watch. The movement is otherwise clean. New crown is on its way.
