colour of second hand 6139

I just read Ty Maitland's post - Collector's Buying Guide for a 6139. In it he states that the second hand is always red.

I have a very nice but 'been to the spa' before my purchase 6139 6005 with a 'gold' sunburst dial. Everything looks right but the yellow second hand.

Would it be reasonable then to assume that the hands have been replaced with perhaps a set for a 6139 6013 which appears to have a yellow second hand?

And if so then should I be looking to find the correct second hand?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Ty's original post needs some updating. Yellow + blue dial 6139-600X's originally came with red second hands. The JDM 6139-6000 with the Sunrise dial came with a yellow second hand. The 6139-603X JDM speedtimers had orange second hands.
It always possible that during service or repair someone didn't have the correct second hand and just used what they had available.
The second hand is dedicated to the vertical clutch and can not be swapped from one movement to another without broaching it to fit. Otherwise it needs a new hand.
t,

didn't some -603x's come with a yellow "second" hand also? I have one that has it's original 2pc yellow second and subdial hand (at least I think it's original!).

Posts like this make me think we need to maybe have SCWF 'official' posts somewhere that are sticky's that get updated for the core collector items (6138, 6139, 6105, 6306/9, etc...) as more solid info comes along. I for one know that when I 'discover' a model I look for these, and out of date info can be a killer.

I think you may be right and they were also used on some 6139-601X's.

I have one with a yellow seconds hand....which I've painted red:)
I think some of the 6139-600x came with orange hands anyway. I don't think this was a service change. I think it's more like what they had available in the factory at the time. Just my opinion as a aweful lot seem to have orange hands from minor services. Also some had the funky speedtimer shaped sub hand. I also think it was what was available at the time. My 6139-6040 has a gold sub hand which is original as it has a gold sub dial also.
I had a yellow handed 6139- that I had Spencer swap out with red hands from a donor that I sent him. That was before I had a hand removal tool and wasn't as confident in my watch tinkering abilities. I really liked it better with the red hands. But that's just my personal opinion.
