I asked about this watch over at WUS, got excited about the feedback and ordered one. To my surprise, I ordered it on Friday night and on the next Tuesday afternoon it was here! All the way from Hong Kong
!!! It was the first time I used FedEx and I was honestly surprised with their service.

Anyways, here's my new diver:

My initial feeling about the rubber/plastic strap was that it was only "kind of comfortable", and I think I felt this way because I'm only used to metal bracelets on my divers - all of them are on metal. But if you noted I wrote felt, because after a few days wearing the watch I have to say the strap is very comfortable. I guess it was just a matter of it breaking in, and wearing it as I type this, I now would say it's pretty nice on the wrist.

Here are a couple of pics comparing the NY0054 size-wise to the Sumo and BFK. As you can see, it's on the small side, and since the case is Ti and the strap is rubber/plastic, it's the lightest of all my divers, and one of the lightest of all my watches. I know many like a hefty watch, but I at least like a light watch, specially if it's going to be a beater.

The case back is pretty plain, nothing to write home about. Can anyone interpret the serial number? I doubt that you can read it the same way as you read Seiko's serial numbers, and I'm curious to know when my watch was made
.

The only thing I didn't like about it is that the bezel has some vertical play. Nothing major, but it is noticeable, and it's a bit odd for me, since it's the only watch that I have where the bezel behaves like this. But when you turn it it clicks solidly, just like on my Seikos. At first I thought that the lume wasn't very good, but I after a few days I think differently; the lume is VERY good! Seiko good in fact! I made a few lume shots comparing to some other watches I have, and if anyone wants to see I'll show the pics later.

But the best I reserved for last: when I got it, I set it to an atomic clock and 48 hours later it was running exactly 5 seconds fast! I couldn't believe it, but right out of the box the Myota 8203 is COSC-good! I know the movement needs to break in, but I still think that is pretty good.

Overall, I would say that's a very nice watch for just $93,60

UPDATE
After over two months wearing it, here is how I feel about the watch:

Case
Light and tough, just perfect on a watch that you don't want to be reminded that is there. And even though it's in "scratch prone Ti", so far I haven't had not even a swirl on the case.

Strap
Initially I was very skeptic about the rubber strap, since I'm a bracelet guy. But you know what, this is maybe the most comfortable watch that I have, and that's because of the strap.

8203
Since it doesn't hack, I can't exactly set the time to the exact second, so I can't be very precise about this. From what I've seen so far I think my watch is doing around +10/day, and that is very good IMO. Another thing that amazes me is how easy it is to charge the spring - I wear it one night and I'll have enough charge to last me until the next night. The only watch that I ever saw that does better then that are my Orients (RM1 & 2), both with the 49643 calibers. These two are amazing: besides the charge lasting forever, one swing when they're dead in the watch box and they're good for almost an hour. Another thing about the 8203 is the so called "8203 stutter" - if the thing exists, I can't even imagine what color the beast is, because so far I wasn't able to make it happen.
Lume
When I got the watch I was under the impression that it wasn't so good, but now I think exactly the opposite: if it's not the BEST lume I have, it's the second best. Totally awesome at three in the morning!

What I don't like
When you turn the crown to hand wind things are rough, not faintly close to the smoothness of the 6R15. And also, the threads on the crown seem to be very coarse, because I have the impression I'm grinding metal whenever I loosen or tighten the crown.

With all that, I'm VERY pleased with this "cheap little beater watch". There are many options out there that offer solid performance for a small price, but I bought the NY0054 because I was curious about the Miyota 8203. Honestly, it only looses to the 6R15, and that's because the 8203 doesn't hack (and of course, the 6R15 is smoother). The quick set date feature (turn the crown one way for day and the other way for date) is absolutely great, and being able to hand wind is always appreciated.

I thought it would be nice to give an "after thought" about the watch. When you write these "reviews", right after you get the watch, usually everything is all roses, so I think it would be good to know how the watch behaves after some wrist time. With that the write-up becomes more practical and informative.

You are not the only one, mine was just the same. I lubed it with some sillicone grease the day I got it, but after 6 months of on and off wearing (which means setting the time & date a lot), the thread was worn out, and I wasn't able to secure the crown anymore.

I wonder if the material choice of the crown (or of the stem tube) was a smart one...

Sold the NY0054 as a bastler-watch.

I'll stick to NY0040's....

That's the third case of this happening I've read about, including my own. I managed to wear out the threads in the stem tube just a couple of months after acquiring the watch. I was quoted a ridiculous price for a new case, and so sold my NY0054 to a non-diver friend. And it's not like I don't know how to properly screw in a dive watch crown.

Shoot! :-[
Just 10 minutes ago I got home and strapped my NY0054, and was reminded how coarse the crown thread is. I have the feeling that it's easier to strip then with my O300 (that I just took off) or the MM300, even though their threads seem to be much finer.

No problems with mine.

Am now looking for a spare strap. Have been toying with rubber with deployants, but most I've found on the web do not have well constructed deployants (and have wasted quite a bit of $$ trying them out and cutting them to length myself with a couple of mistakes along the way!!).

Have just discovered Hirsch water resistant leathers and put it on my black Citizen AT870 Eco Drive and it looks wonderful, so much better than the canvas strap it came with. I shower with my watches (hell, I even make love to my wife with my watches still on my wrist!!) and the Hirsch really lived up to it's water resistant claims. I hardly noticed that it was leather because water just rolled off it like water off a duck's back! The lining it seems, was made from some scuba diving wet suit material so it hardly remained damp. Am very happy with it.

I'm just not sure which Hirsch to use to match the Titanium casing of the NY0054. Any of you have suggestions?

I personally don't like carbon just for the looks of it. (but that's just me, I know)

I do admire carbon in mechanical construction work though, like racing car suspension parts for instance, or a chassis for a Britten racer.
