Citizen BN0000-04H - Sapphire Crystal Installed

I think I can claim a first on this one, but in the same vein of claiming to be the worlds tallest midget, it may not get me much street cred even in Japanese watch WIS world.

I got a hankering to get a Sapphire crystal for my 300m mid-sized (I have a 6.5 inch wrist) BN0000-04H.

Made a few calls and before I know it, I have placed a bulk 50 sapphire crystal order with the same specs as the original except, sapphire of course, and an AR bottom.

Just got my first one back installed by Jay at MCWW. This is a top loader since it is a monocoque case. The gasket and this other black rubber gasket thing took a hit and had to be replaced (see picture below), but beyond that the install went well and it passed a pressure test.

My primary take is that the straight on visibility of the dial is enhanced. The primary goal of course was scratch resistance given the OEM crystal is particularly known for it's sensitivity to scratching. Finally I would say the visibility of the dial at different angles is modestly improved with less distorting of the dial and hands - hard to say however.

Here's some pictures - - -

Notice the Apple logo on the right side of the dial being picked up from my iphone by the way.

(Whoever thought Costco would be selling sapphire crystals) - That's a joke.

Sacrificed Parts

This issue does complicate the install I suppose.

Ok - - - now what to do with the 45 or so extra crystals. I will need to start figuring out that one :)

Thanks for the encouragement that I am not completely nuts for doing this!

I would never have thought of modding this watch with a sapphire crystal. It is a great little watch too and you are not nuts for doing the mod.

Tony
No, I just think it'll take time to catch on.
Here it is on a wjean waffle strap. The solar dial has a bit of a waffle pattern so I think the two compliment each other. Strap 19mm so 1mm short, but I am dealing with it. James Bond supposedly did an 18mm Nato on his 20mm Rolex so I am in good company.

Nice work! The BN0000 is a favorite of mine as well. Imho the mineral crystal is its only weak spot, and you've rectified that. Mine is still scratch-free, but once it's picked up some marks, I'll think about having it replaced with a sapphire as well.
Why don't you offer your spare crystals on SCTP? I'm sure there would be some interested members.
Count me in for one, not only have a scratched mine but i chipped it also.
I definitely plan on posting them on the SCTP. Pretty much at cost + shipping + a very modest markup to cover my office helper's time spent packaging and shipping the crystals. Hopefully by Friday 9/5.

This is a onetime thing and I don't see me becoming the Harold or Jake of Citizen diver parts (Yobnezitic? Hmmmmm). It has been a fun experiment and I sincerely appreciate the interest.

I will pm those who have expressed interest in the crystal in this post as soon has I have the parts nicely/safely packaged for shipping and have the notice posted on SCTP.
