here's a bronze chinese 6105 which i bought for not a lot of money
at all, and i managed to get a spork cheaply at a yard sale, and the
spork just felt way too chunky for me, and the bronze 6105, though
it has a surprisingly beautifully done case, well, that fake tuna crop
circle dial just did not do it for me. so i married the two by putting
the spork dial and hands into the bronze 6105 case, actually, i had
duarte mendonca do it, i'm sure you'll recognize his photography
on the final photo....so this new watch is such a keeper for me,
it's literally sort of a bad-ass watch, in my eyes, it's waterproof,
it sits low on the wrist, i put it on a mini-turtle silicone strap and
it just reads as modern and sensual at the same time...i'll post
more photos on wruw tomorrow, 'cause now i want to wear it again :)

if you like it, you'll see these chinese 6105's up for sale occasionally,
and i have to say, i'm impressed with the accuracy and finesse of
the design/build. also, i removed the clickspring and i have a
beautifully dampened smoothly operating bezel on it now, ya know,
without the clicks, you eliminate a lot of alignment agita....just
sayin' :) i won't be imperiled in my deep-sea dives, please don't worry
about me :)

the lume, of course, is amazing. and i really like that on the watch
face, time-telling is fairly general in terms of having no minute indices,
but when you employ the bezel, and a bezel without a clickspring is
MUCH more accurate than with, i mean, when you're timing, you can
put the arrow right ON the minute hand...it's really nice to have this
generally vague attitude towards time on the face of things that goes
totally accurate by employing the bezel. it parallels how i often feel
about the passing of time....

The great thing about modding your own watches and creating new designs is that the only judge you have to worry about pleasing is yourself. I would way that came out great but what I really like about it is how much you like the way it came out.

I made this bronze mod from an old 'gold' Seiko case that went 'bronze' due to life in an HHC and I myself couldn't be happier. The rest of the WIS world can love it too like me, or hate it, what do I care?

That's pretty cool - either in original or modded configuration. The case and bezel are particularly good. So what's it got inside? An NH35?

Another great looking mod Peter. I wonder if you might do a post with some or all of your favorites? I’ve enjoyed the three I’ve seen so far.

i like your mod too, and that you like it. i also enjoy your posts and how
generous you are with you knowledge of these watches. i am a relative
neophyte.

i was a professional sculptor for 2 decades, so you get to be pretty immune
to what other people think when you put your stuff out there like that...
now i have a more well balanced life, tending to an orchard, teaching yoga,
making hard cider, painting a bit, making an occasional big sculpture.
and then modding watches, i do this more in the winter, as an indoor sport:)

so the inverse is also true, i've had some mods really fail ( as far as
i'm concerned,) i know the feeling well, like working very hard on something
and having it turn out sort-of-so-so...che fare? it's in the nature of making
things. maybe we should do a thread on failed mods so we can learn from
each others' mistakes. i have mine, certainly :)

it is an nh35, it hand winds, it hacks, it keeps good time, i forget what
the spork has, it's a watch i wan't much into, but duarte thought the
movement that was in there was better...whatever. it keeps fine time.
i like to synch my watches to www.time.gov in the morning, and at the
end of the day, it's never far off at all...

i would love to do that. in have a folder on my desktop of modded cases,
as a former sculptor, this is really my joy...now don't get me wrong, i'm
not gonna take a file to a 6306 or a 6309 or any 6105....those cases are
perfect. but the 007's, well, they're so popular, but they could be so
much more graceful. i am currently carving a sne109 i got cheap, i got
a bezel from dave murphy for it ( his bezels are the best, hands down!)
i'm gonna put a scandi.one black bezel insert or a full lume "seiko" bezel
insert in there, and what a great little grab-n-go beater this might turn
out to be. i am gonna make the sne109 case look just like a mid-60's
jaguar xke :) and the fun part is, i'll wear it while i'm building a stone
wall...
