Aliens that is :)

I have a bit of a soft spot for the 7As and really like some of the unusual models in the range.

Always fancied the "Alien" but never found one in the price range i was happy to pay.

Well this one languished on ebay for a few weeks at different prices but no one took it in so I contacted the seller (I like a little gamble), agreed a price (after a couple of weeks) and it arrived on Thursday courtesy of my "shipping agent" (thank you :)

As advertised it had problems and was missing the case back and yellow pushers.

So stripped the case down which also entailed drilling one of the shroud screws out ( like buses, thats two drilled out in the last fortnight), changed all the gaskets including the crystal gasket and a new crystal.

Replaced the chrono min coil and fitted a new second counting wheel friction spring and running well and keeping time.

Bracelet very nice but one link too tight (anyone got one or two links to sell ?).

The case back was also missing but i had a spare for the 7A28-7010 so unless i ever find an original that will stay were it is.

Like an idiot i missed a pair of yellow pushers on ebay last week so i think i will end up having to make some unless of course some one has a couple to sell ? :)

Strange but in real life it looks so much better than these pictures (mine and sellers).

Nice rescue John, there was talk of hal0eight 3D printing some pushers for these a few days ago - I'm not sure if it was just talk or whether it will happen though.

I saw that Duncan but i doubt if the finish will be nice enough ? I think some machined ones out of Acetal (perhaps a set of stainless as well) could perhaps be better ?
I just was looking at a couple of those on eBay because I was using 7A28 as a search criteria. There were a couple mint examples with the boxes and all. Completely insane prices! Definitely a watch worth spending the time on to get it back on its feet again. Having just received my 7A28-7049 I have instantly fell in love with the design and function of the 7A28 and its twin the 7A38. Looking around there are not a lot of them around to be had.

The 7040/9 is one of my favorite 7As, I received another one in the package with this and also a 7A28-7029 which are now running as well :)
Outstanding work John very apt as I am currently battling the Alien in the creepy,Alien:Isolation".

I guess it's a good thing that they are hard to fix and many shy away from the ones listed as "for parts only" I'm a gambler and I am amazed how many most of the different model quartz Seiko chronograph that I have bought as "for parts only" that I was able to get up and running within a hour. I get a real dud now and then but that just leaves me with extra dials and bracelets to build a custom chronograph!

I love those odd-ball finds, they are really cool, especially if they are a chrono !! Wear it with pride, I am sure it will be an attention getter and a conversation starter !
Another cool, retro and odd looking Seiko that makes me cuckoo. It's an illness I tell you!
That's great John. I was thinking on this one and watching it.
I love the 7A28 and 38 and great little watches and good to work on.
Definately agree that 3D printed pushers are not going to be much good, a machined set would be the way forward! Good luck with that.
Cool watch.
It's great that there are a few like you who are prepared and skilled enough to recommission something like this.
Hey Guys,

Yep, I should be able to do those buttons as they should be within the machine's capability. Just waiting on someone to send me one so I can draw it up. Literally just waiting for one to come past my desk. 3D printed ones will be of similar durability/appearance to the original part and a lot cheaper than getting them machined, as the volume just isn't required.
