I purchased an odd looking 6139-8040 some time ago that had a cool looking, but what I suspect is a non-original dial. I was doing my periodic search today for one of these watches that I may steal a dial from, given that the case and bracelet on the one I received is in near perfect condition and I came across another watch with almost an identical dial at this page: http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/oyaji_no_heya/14445947.html

Google translator always struggles to make comprehendible English, so I was wondering if anybody could help me out. It seems from the Google translation that there is some talk of originality of the watch but would love to get some clarity on this one. The quality of the dial is good enough to be original, but who knows. It is also about half way down this page (it is a blue 6139-8040..). http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/oyaji_no_heya/folder/1152166.html?m=lc&p=3

Thanks in advance to anybody that can help...

Don't know Japanese (wish I did though!) but that dial doesn't look original to me - mind you I'm not a Seiko / 6139 expert. You may have found this site already:

http://jwatch.hp.infoseek.co.jp/seiko-1-2.htm

it shows some 8040 variants with lighter blue dials. The sub-dial on yours is very different and is not in a contrasting colour, the black Seiko logo and '5' look a bit heavy handed to me whilst the outer ring of second/minute markers is not as fine and detailed as the other models I've seen.

Perhaps others with more expertise than me could comment...
