I took a £30 gamble last weekend on a spares/repair auction for this Eco drive perpetual calendar diver (200m rated it says)

Seller said it had been working fine but then had stopped and the crown wasn't moving the hands.

Well... it's a fairly well known fact that eco drives do like a bit of sun now and again and as i have another watch with the same movement in i also know that the crown doesn't move the hands in the same way as a normal watch. These things are full of electronic horological trickery and the crown is basically a switch that operates a stepper motor that moves the hands. No power = no hand movement.

It landed very quickly and it was dead as a doornail so i left it to sunbathe on a south facing windowsill for a couple of days. 2 days and a full reset later and.....ta daaaaa........a fully functional watch!!! :yahoo:

The only curve ball it threw at me was that the crown was loose on the stem but that was quickly fixed too.

Damn i love ebay sometimes....

Watchs like that one

Watchs like that I have gotten about ........ ( 9 ) of them
so far. Problem watchs Echo Drives, they say ........
" NO, NOT CHARGED UP , That's all .

The seller states its ......... " DEAD ", or its water damaged.
Some say its Broken , have no crowns, do not want to fuss
with it any more...etc. I put them on the widow like you said,
they come ........... " A LIVE" again.
my last one was said the owner had to turn it back wards to set it.
It arrived, I opened it.......... " The Crown had un-screwed itself
from the stem. Some godi stuff waited, closed up ,
Walaaah ..... it works just fine now, onto the window sill. and
charged fully.
All Nine ( 9 ) were like that ......... Dead, Dirty, Some scratchs
and all done now ....running great.
By the way Andy.............. very nice one that is.

Thank you Ebay

Great score. Much like my fully functional 7006- I snared off the bay for $4.50 that "broken, runs a while when shaken, then stops".

Great job knowing about the crown not turning the hands. I flipped my Eco-Drive Perpetual before it ever ran out of power reserve.

Congrats!

That's great, Andy! I had problems at first with my Citizen, too. I had to wrap my head around the fact that, after I did 2 turns on the crown, I just had to stop turning and let the motor carry the hands around :)
