So I've bought a lovely 7A28-7100 from Oz. Well, I thought it was lovely, until it showed up.

The description read it had recently been serviced and functioned correctly. Ha.

The Chrono functions are all over the place. Pushing to start does nothing.
Holding the start makes only the 1/10s dial move.
The reset only works if held in continuously, and even then only moves the second sweep hand.
The minute dial moves when you push the lap timer button.

Is any of this fixable at all? Need some ammunition for the seller when (or if) he replies.

Its all very fixable, either just with a service or possibly using replacement parts (which are usually only available from donor watches).

From what you've said this sounds like another example of gunged up pushers.

It might however be worse and be either rust or battery leak damage.

So, fixable? Yes.

Costly? Possibly, especially if you have to pay someone to do the work.

Worth having a look at the pushers first just in case like Simon said.

Does the time part run ?

Generally they can be fixed unless rusted up totally and like already said you may just need a cheap donor.

Have you a picture ?

It tells basic time yes.
I'm not sure it's just a sticky pusher issue, none of the chrono functions are working together!

Here it is...

How much would a service on these typically cost?

Silly question - but is the crown pushed fully home ?
Above symptoms almost sound like the watch is in (chrono') setting mode.

Egg on face, for sure. I've learnt something new however, so some good has come from it.

Ha all is well that ends well.

Funnily enough it was this forum that helped me understand chrono setting mode many moons ago...
Since then I regretfully sold my 7a38. Posts like that sweet watch have me itching for a new one :undecided:
