This one is a Suwa (which ive REALLY wanted for a while) dated Feb 1980. The case is in really good shape except for the narley scratch on the back. But 20 minutes on the buffer will fix that (joking 😀
. He said it was recently serviced with new gaskets. Which brings me to a question.

The stem is quite stiff to pull out and turn (same level of tention). All functions work fine...just stiff. In addition to not aligning the chapter ring, could they have used incorrect gasket size or not lubed? Or is this "normal"?

It's possible the gasket is either a little too large or is lacking lubrication. I'd try some silicone first and if that doesn't work then replace the gasket.
I have a 6105 that had a crown rebuild with a new gasket. For some reason this one stiffens up if I don't use it regularly so I periodically add a little more silicone.
