Hi Guys

I have a Question for the 6390 experts out there about my recently acquired 6309-7040 from May, 1977 (Pic below) O

Well....2 questions actually ..............

Very grateful if you could give your input.

Question 1 - Are the Hands on my 6309 original ? I believe they are, but I'm definitely no expert :

Question 2 - Have you guys come across 6309s where the Hands have "toned" differently from the Dial Indices ?
Even if the hands are original, I'm wondering if they may have come from another watch......

I do like this watch a lot (especially the Dial, with the Bright Red "Water Resist" and beautifully toned indices.....which is the reason I actually got this watch ;D ).

I'm just really curious about the "differently" toned Hands

I don't think there is anyway to know for certain. The hands look original to me but as to whether they are to the watch itself is tough to say. One of the selling points people often use to determine originality is the fact that the hands and indices match, but it is not stone cold proof they are from the same watch.


My 0.02 cents on this one would be to contemplate a relume from one of the masters as the way to get everything back into the same shape. What is interesting on your dial is how well the resist red has stayed nice and vivid, so with a relume it would, in my opinion, look fantastic. Of course, that will start the age old discussion of originality vs functionality...

Thanks for the Input.

I really like the Toning on the Dial indices, so I'll most likely leave that untouched. And as I won't be using this 6309 as my BedSide night-time watch (that duty is carried out very well by my Casio ProTrek), I guess a lack of lume will not be a problem for me. So.....looks like I'm leaning towards Originality over Functionality. Although I will be getting it fully serviced and, hopefully, pressure tested.

This Puppy is not going to be a Watch-Drawer Queen. She's going to get A LOT of wrist time....maybe even get wet ;D
