Just saw a watch up for sale a "rare" 6319-7040 diver ? what the heck is this now, did i miss something or did this just slip under my radar ? :-\

The case looks like the 6309 diver but the chapter ring looks strange and big and the dial looks like something from a 7548 diver.

Although I wanted to keep an open mind about that one (I was one of the posters in the 2005 thread linked above - bakuma was my original screen name), it became pretty obvious that there were simply too many strikes against it being legit (the dial text, caseback serial # text, etc). Likely a small batch put together from real Seiko parts (except the dial).

Paul, I think many have concurred with you on this one...

though, the relative "quality" of workmanship of dial text and caseback engravings left many scratching there heads.

Yeah the 6319 divers are a long standing feiko that shows up on ebay with disturbing regularity. These are no frankens. They are feiko's through and through, and show up in no catalog that I'm aware of.

I bought that watch from Lanny. After I did, I sent it to Randall Benson, who posted a bunch of pictures here: http://www.fototime.com/ftweb/bin/ft.dll/pictures?userid={BC70640C-9153-4150-BEE8-731AD9BF2B14}&inv=2C302F09A491E72&userid={BC70640C-9153-4150-BEE8-731AD9BF2B14}&AlbumId={9794BAFA-A18D-463D-9ECD-5A14CE184F0D}&inv=2C302F09A491E72&GroupId={57639BEB-75D5-4D5F-9F71-FC2CEEACAC13}&nt=a.

It is a Feiko, but it has a very nice Seiko 6306 movement in it, in a reasonable case. I have kept it, and it does get some wrist time. I would never try to sell it as a 6319, nor try to resell it as it is nothing but a fake, albeit a pretty well done fake.

It is a bit of a Unicorn in the Seiko diving lore, but when all was said and done, there really is no such Unicorn, just an old mare with a narwhal tusk. It keeps great time however!
