A few months back I popped into the localSalvos op shop (thrift store) and in a box of junk was this rather sadlooking old 6119:
I thought "why not?" and picked it up for AU$5.
I set about restoring it, purchasing a replacement crystal from thestates that, despite the seller's assurances, just didn't quite fit. Iposted here about this and Jonathan kindly sent me the correct crystalfree of charge, refusing all my attempts to compensate him!
Thanks Swedefreak.
The next issue was the movement, which was badly worn (and will soon becompletely stripped as a learning experience. Looking through theTrading Post I came upon Dennis's ad for a 6119 movement for AU$10.When I contacted him he sent me the movement, also refusing to take anypayment.
Thanks Dennis!
After a bit of TLC the watch ended up like this:
Nice enough, but blue dials (and 5s) don't really do it for me, so offto 10watches (on Noah's birthday!) and a dial and hand change laterI've ended up with this:
The next step was to spray the chapter ring black, which increased the apparent size of the dial and add a fantastic NATO from Timefactors which really completes the whole package...
Photobucket ate all my photos, I'll try and dig them up. Here it is today:
